Swim
Comments: The swim is my favorite part, but open water is not my forte. I was kicked a few times, zigzagged a lot, but felt pretty good. What would you do differently?: Learn how to swim straight. Transition 1
Comments: I take my time in transition. Brushing my teeth calms me, so I did that. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: I really don't like biking. Luckily, I didn't get any flats! My bike, however, makes noises when I'm in the ideal gear for flat road, so that gets into my head. I had one clif bar and two Gus plus too much gatorade. What would you do differently?: Maybe a different set of calories. Transition 2
Comments: Again, I took my time. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Run didn't go as planned. I really wanted to average about 11:15/mi to finish in 6:30, but my tummy was sloshy. I also got a really bad cramp behind my left knee around mile 5. Lots of blisters from the wet socks from sprinklers. Around the infamous bluff, I got those chills you get from being too hot and my tummy really started to hate me. The ice and towels were awesome. I got really happy to almost be done at the last water stop. What would you do differently?: Not sure. I've run better during my hotter training runs. Post race
Warm down: Got my medal, met the family, walked around a bit, then went back to condo. I didn't want to eat. I finally had dinner with my family in Fish Creek around 7, but could barely eat. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramping and tummy issues on run. I'm glad I listened to my body and silenced my ego in the run. Event comments: I have volunteered at this event the last three years and it's run so well. I will be back next year! Last updated: 2012-04-25 12:00 AM

We stayed up in Door County starting Friday. I volunteered at the sprint and then tried to take it easy all day Saturday, which can be difficult with two kids.
I got up Sunday around 4:30 and had yogurt and granola, water and Gatorade. It was hard to eat because I was so nervous! This was my first half-iron.
Got to park around 6, put out transition stuff, got my bike checked with in-comp guys, and walked around taking photos and drinking water and Gatorade. I probably peed about five times before entering water. I hung out on the beach and ate some raspberries with my family. I put my wetsuit on, backwards at first, which is hilarious. I've never done that! Anyway, I just waited for my wave to be called-3rd to last.
