Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:15 and made an apple, carrot, and strawberry juice. Had some coffee and drove up to Windsor from Parker
Event warmup:

Swam a few out and back laps. It was fairly cold and I was wishing i had my neoprene cap. I did wear socks or the warm up swim and that worked well.
Swim
  • 12m 30s
  • 800 meters
  • 01m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

My coach was also racing in my wave so I lined up behind him and tried to hang on. Managed to stay with him for the first 400m but them I had to back off a bit and settle into my own pace.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, maybe wear my neoprene cap
Transition 1
  • 01m 53s
Comments:

Everything went well except taking off the suit. It got stuck on my timing chip and probably cost me 20 seconds. Other than that, this was the first race I mounted my bike while my shoes were per clipped in.
What would you do differently?:

More body glide
Bike
  • 25m 20s
  • 10 miles
  • 23.68 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

The finish came up so quick I didn't have time to remove both feet from my bike shoes. It was pretty comical that I came skidding into transition then dismounting my bike with one barefoot and one bike shoe still on .
What would you do differently?:

Pay attention
Run
  • 21m 20s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

This just hurt. My right side hurt and I was wheezing and almost hyperventilating. My legs however felt great, it was as if they were on autopilot and knew what to do. I think it was all those early 5:30 am Wednesday interval sessions. All I had to do was just suffer through the pain and I would break my 7:00/mile goal.
What would you do differently?:

My legs felt like they could have gone faster but every time I tried to push it I got a bit dizzy. I think that means I pushed to my limit and just need to keep training.
Post race
Warm down:

Rode for about 20 minutes

What limited your ability to perform faster:

This was. Not an A race for me so I had no expectations. However I am extremely pleased.

Event comments:

The only thing that kinda bothered me was the fact that I wasn't passed by anybody in my age group. I spoke with the guy that took first in my division and found out that he raced elite so he was in an earlier wave. He even thought I had won my age group. Not sure I could have stayed with him on the run since He ran 47 sec/mile faster than me, but in only seems right that I should have at least been given the opportunity to compete in the same wave. If an event is going to have an elite division, shouldn't they keep the awards separate? Anyway, I gave it everything I had
