Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4:30am, ate light breakfast of bagel and water and energy gel. Drove 1 hour to event site and arrive at 6:00am Checked in and got situated in transition.
Event warmup:

Swam for a few minutes to acclimate to water, stretched and shot the breeze with friends.
Swim
  • 08m 45s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 59s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out slow, currently breathing every other stroke. Breathing unilaterally as it is difficult for me to breathe out of left side
What would you do differently?:

Practicing breathing every fourth stroke as well as breathing bilaterally.
Transition 1
  • 01m 27s
Comments:

Overshot bike rack, had to circle back. Placed shoes on, have not practiced starting bike with shoes arleady clipped in. Have not really practiced transitions at all for that mattter.
What would you do differently?:

Start practicing transitions.
Bike
  • 42m 53s
  • 15 miles
  • 20.99 mile/hr
Comments:

This was the fastest ride for me in my limited number of triathlons. I have now had a bike for a little over a year and my time on the bike this year is already greater than all of last year combined. Have really been focusing on bike segment trying to do at least two group rides a week just to get more time in saddle versus last year. Nice to see training pay off
What would you do differently?:

Continue to put in the time training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

As mentioned in T1, I have not really practiced transitions. Need to do so.
What would you do differently?:

Practice transitions.
Run
  • 21m 7s
  • 3 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

So far, running has always been my best discipline, which isn't a surprise as that is mybackground. My training miles for running are down this year versus last I have tried to focus more and the bike (and reluctantly swimming). Times have not suffered that much as of yet, which was a little surprising. Ran pretty even splits, a little negative on the last mile (about 10 seconds)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really
Post race
Warm down:

Dank some water and gatorade, ate two hot dogs. Guess that's why I'm still a Clydesdale!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm a poor swimmer, probably need lessons. Need to practice transitions.

Event comments:

Fun race, like the course.
