Run
Comments: I ran my fastest and was in the top 5-7 in my wave. Couldn't have run any faster. I dont like running on soft grass - uneven ground gives my knee some pain. What would you do differently?: I dont train for short distances, so had I known about this in a race, I'm sure I would have done some short speed work. Overall, happy with my initial run. Transition 1
Comments: I spaz'ed a bit in T1 - dropped my helmet, fumbled with glasses. Then I had trouble getting into the peddles - but this was outside T1. What would you do differently?: Stay cool and not make mistakes. Bike
Comments: 59th! I thought I was going very fast. My bike computer setting was wrong, so I did not know may pace. 20mph seems to be good, but 59th!?! I dont know what to say - I was working pretty hard. What would you do differently?: My bike training has lapsed a bit, as usual during later summer. Cant get the morning rides in at 5am, since it is too dark (and dangerous). I guess I just need to keep training hard through out the summer for these later season races. Transition 2
Comments: OK, but not too smooth. Haven't done a tri since mid July, so maybe just out of practice. What would you do differently?: Practice? Run
Comments: This was more like my "normal" performance - not lightning fast, but a good pace for the end of the race. Passed alot and did not get passed. Finished strong and passed 2 guys in my age group in the last half mile. What would you do differently?: Please with this part. Post race
Warm down: Had some water, found John B, then Eran and Dave. WHined about not having swim and thus being at the mercy of the fast runners without our normal swim advantage. Hung out with Dave and John's families, listened to awards (with false hopes!) and then went for breakfast in Madison. It was nice to socialize after a race for a change! What limited your ability to perform faster: My bike training slows down in August as the days get shorter - I guess it shows! 59th! Event comments: Very nice venue and great volunteers. Post race food/drink was lousy - water and dry bagels. Awards took forever. HOWEVER - I must compliment the race management on quickly reacting to the conditions and putting on a organized, enjoyable race. I would have enjoyed the swim, but I completely understand their decision. Last updated: 2012-05-08 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30, made coffee, finished packing truck, left at 4. Arrived Madison at 5:15, early enough for a good parking spot. Check in was easy, and transition racks were open - so glad I got there early. Weather was very windy and Long Island Sound was choppy, but all indications were that the Tri would happen as planned. Unfortunately, as they tried to place the buoys, they decided it was too dangerous and changed to run-bike-run.
So, instead of swimming warm-up, went for a jog with John B from the Y and hung out waiting for the course to be re-done for the duathlon. Clearly there were some very happy people - fast runners from x-country teams. Had a Gu pre-race and G1 as well.
