Swim
Comments: Really good swim, started out easy knowing the pack would thin then found some feet and drafted for the rest of the race. Had to get up and walk at one point because it was so shallow. Got out of the water with the lead group, maybe 5 of us. Only a few people in front of us from my group. What would you do differently?: Maybe take the last 1-200 yards a little easier. Transition 1
Comments: Well my wet suit always sticks on my heels, I've given up on stomping it off and now just get it low and then hook my thumb in to clear it from my ankle. Went a little harder than planned on the swim so I walked up the stairs to get my HR under control. Stumbled with my bike as I tried to fix the nose piece on my helmet which caused my chain to drop and kick my shin into my chain-ring leaving a nice cut on my shin. After putting the chain back on rushed it dropped again. What would you do differently?: Not try to fix my nose guard, seeing as it doesn't usually rest on my nose except for bumps. Maybe try some electrical tape so it doesn't cut me just in case. Bike
Comments: Pretty good bike, spent the first 5 miles letting my HR settle from a bad transition. Then didn't really pick up the pace, first race with my Garmin and I was listening to the HR alarms. Didn't take the hills as aggressively as I did in my HIM and ended up slower than in my half. What would you do differently?: Go Harder. Shut off HR alarms for biking. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, took me a moment to re-rack my bike. What would you do differently?: Have a plan for where and how to re-rack my bike. Run
Comments: My weak sport, I have been working on for a while. Good improvement over my last race. Started using Ice in my hat on the first aid station and I think it's what kept me going as the run went on. Didn't overheat like I usually do. Walked the aid stations just long enough to drink, except the last one where I walked a little longer to recover. What would you do differently?: Run more in training, keep doing intervals. Post race
Warm down: Walking around finish chute eating an orange waiting for my Fiancee to finish. She did awesome, wasn't expecting her to finish so close after me. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cut shin on chain ring, took the bike a little too easy. Event comments: Great first Olympic distance tri. Would have liked a real dessert instead of cornbread, but another great event put on by Sun Multisports Last updated: 2012-05-08 12:00 AM

Got up early ate some oatmeal and a banana. We got there just after 6am and went to set up our transitions. Went to get body marked then walked all the transition routes. Grabbed my wet suit and dropped the bag in my car and walked down to the swim warm up. The race was delayed 15 minutes for fog, good call as we could only see 1 of like 4 buoys.
Swam out to the first buoy, still couldn't see the next buoy at that point. A little more swimming before walking back up for the Athlete Meeting.
