Swim
Comments: Unintentionally got caught in center of pack at first buoy, lot of knocking and banging for the first half of the course. For a while got boxed in behind a guy doing some type of wild backstroke. Had an opening at the half-way buoy and managed to pull ahead. Finish leg was directly into the rising sun; had trouble sighting, so just followed folks around me; tinted goggles probably would have helped. What would you do differently?: Shold have gone way wider at start to stay out of the pack around the first buoy. Time was disappointing, maybe due to fighting in the pack too long. Wear tinted goggles. Transition 1
Comments: Time included run up from beach. Put on helmet & glasses. Used water bottle to rinse off feet before pulling on shoes. What would you do differently?: Run harder up from beach. Bike
Comments: Rode at my planned 90 cadence. Got passed by quite a few people on the outbound leg, passed a few at about the halfway point, was pretty much by myself on the return leg. What would you do differently?: Maybe could have gone harder. Was afraid to go too hard since I haven't spent the time on the bike this year like I would have liked to. Train more on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: Rack was at other end of Transition, so had long run in bike shoes to get there. Rinsed my feet again to get some residual sand/gravel off my feet that I had missed in T1. Almost forgot to grab my racebelt. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Started out at 2:1 walk/run ratio. Ran at deliberately slow pace. Walked through the last water station and then ran about the last 3/4 mile at fairly good pace. Really didn't push that hard, just kept it comfortable. What would you do differently?: Probably could have gone harder in mid and late part of course. Run the last mile without any breaks. Post race
Warm down: Walked around. Drank some water and a couple of cartons of chocolate milk. Tried to stay in the shade. What limited your ability to perform faster: First race since last October, so focused on finishing at comfortable training paces. Think I could have pushed harder on all of the legs, but am always afraid of blowing up on the run based on my history, particularly at this race where it can be brutally hot on the run. Lack of training on the bike is biggest limiter right nom. Probably over-thought my pacing strategy and held back too much on the bike & early run. THat's backed up by my relatively low ave HR data. Event comments: I always enjoy this race. 5th time I've done it. Great job by race directors & volunteers. Last updated: 2012-05-08 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00AM. Got dressed, coffee, some toast and a banana. Pumped up tires then loaded bike and rest of gear in car.
Left at 5:00AM. 30 mile drive from Sarasota to Englewood. Arrived at 5:45AM just as check-in started. Picked up my gear & chip, got bodymarked, then set up my transition area.
No run or bike warm-up. Went down to water about 20 minutes before scheduled start. Easy swim for maybe 200 yards.
