Swim
Comments: First open water swim. Couldn't find any sort of rhythm at first. Questioned turning back for about 2 seconds. Ended up floating on back occasionally to calm self down and catch breathe. Finally got the hang of it after 200 meters What would you do differently?: I think next time I will feel much more comfortable. I like the open water swim and would rather do that than a pool swim tri Transition 1
Comments: All things considered, I was happy with this time. I had laid out sock just in case and ended up putting them on. The only bad part was I had gels in my bike shirt back pocket and they fell out while putting on the shirt. What would you do differently?: put gels in zipper pouch or some other more secure way. Bike
Comments: I like the bike section and feel pretty strong about it, but I also feel like everyone else feels strong on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: This wasn't awful but first I forgot my race belt and had to run back 10 ft and then I forgot my hat (which wasn't crucial but I was in Clemson and had specifically brought my Carolina hat cause I'm a huge Gamecock fan so I had to have it) and had to run back another 10 ft. Other than that, everything went well Run
Comments: I ran just a 5K the week before in a time 4 min faster; so all things considered I was pretty happy with this. I slowed down a bit to rest before the finish but that's when the cramping started. The best part of this run was everyone was in good spirits. People were congratulating and smiling and it was a great atmosphere. What would you do differently?: Don't slow down and just push through! Post race
Warm down: I ended up running 2 miles. My girlfriend was running also and I told her I'd come get her so I went and found her while she had about 1 mile to go. Event comments: Hard to say since this was my first race but I had 2 major complaints. First being parking. Yes there was plenty of it but no there was no organization to it. People were blocking others in and parking all over the place. Wish they had had just a few people out there to help out with this. The other was the post race activities. Granted my girlfriend and I finished towards the end of the pack, but the week before in my 5K I was greeted at the finish line with bananas and oranges and water and after this triathlon I had to actively search out an unmanned kiddie pool where I could grab a soda or water and that's it. They did have pizza but that was not what I wanted just afterwards (I guess everyone else had cooled down already). It wasn't awful and I know there's a lot that goes into this but I just expected a tiny bit more in those 2 categories (especially out of a race 15 years old). Last updated: 2012-05-14 12:00 AM

Hectic morning trying to coordinate getting myself and my girlfriend to the race with everything and trying to get family there to spectate.
Managed to eat a bowl of oatmeal and banana 2 hrs prior and drank some water and a Gatorade Prime
Rode the bike about 1 mile to make sure it all worked. Wanted to run but didn't have time. Didn't get to warm up swim either but nerves were high enough to keep me warm.
