Pre-race routine:

Police half was a few weeks ago - if it went badly I was going to do the half today. But it went well so I took the kids and did the 5k.

Event warmup:

All the other races started at 7 or 7:30 - 5k wasn't until 11. So walking from the train to the Stampede grounds.

Run
  • 18m 54s

Comments:

New PR! But missed 1st ag by 2 seconds (didn't know since no AG markings) - ah well.

Had some good race pressure - older guy had a hard time passing me at the 3k mark, but I stuck with him then ran past him in the last 500 or so. He found me later and chatted about it.

What would you do differently?:

Haven't run a hard proper race 5K for awhile so it was good to see the improvement. I remember when 22:30 was death.

Post race
Warm down:

Ran 11K recovery after lunch. :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weight, pain tolerance.

Event comments:

Pancake breakfast is great, but lacking on drinks and coffee, especially for family who paid 5$ for tickets.

Performance: Good
Avg HR: 163 3:43 first, 3:50s next 3, then 3:30ish last k.
Course: Pretty flat, and measured perfectly. Garmin showed 5.06 or so. One underpass that's got a bit of a slope to it. Ran even pacing - it's amazing how many people blow past me (I think at one point there were 50 people in front of me).
