Swim
Comments: I thought the water was quite rough. Seen some comments on the forum that it was typical of an ocean swim. Last year at the same event the water was smooth as glass. I was a bit panicked getting out to the bouy. It got a little easier once the bouy was rounded, since the current assisted, but the rough chop made it difficult to get a decent freestyle stroke going. I breast stroked mostly, because after only 4 - 10 strokes of freestyle, I was red-lining. I just kept moving, just wanting to get out of the water! I was exhausted coming out of the water. What would you do differently?: Significantly more time in the pool and at least one or two open water swims leading up to the event. Transition 1
Comments: I decided to put on socks, despite thinking before hand that I would go sans socks. After the brutal swim, I needed a few seconds to gather my wits and thought I should go ahead and put the socks on since I thought the day was botched from the tough swim. Wasted a few seconds chitty chatting with a transition mate. What would you do differently?: Get tri cycling shoes and go without socks. My Sidi cycling shoes have three straps, with one ratchet. Takes to long to get strapped up. I really need to work on my transition time. I gave up over a minute in T1 versus everyone ahead in overall times. Bike
Comments: For some reason, they included the T2 times with the bike leg time. I think I may have ranked a bit higher in bike only, but don't know since the event data is combined. I felt very good with my bike performance. The new aero bars helped tremendously! I was only passed by two riders, but I permanently overtook on of them and the other I overtook and stayed ahead until the last 2 miles when we got into the headwind. Both of them has aero bikes and aero helmets. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Well, maybe look into more aero gear! Transition 2
Comments: The event results lumped Bike and T2 together. I estimate that my T2 time was about 2 minutes, based on Garmin bike leg time minus event's Bike_T2 time. Not so good, again! What would you do differently?: Don't know - thought I did OK in T2 but the time says otherwise! Maybe run harder / faster with the bike. Run
Comments: I felt pretty good about the run. I didn't run at all for the month prior due to knee problems, so I was pleasantly suprised to see my run time after the event. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Decent pace and picked it up near the finish. Post race
Warm down: Walked around with my wife and girls. Drank some Powerade Zero and water immediately after. Steak sandwiches (by Longhorns) about 30 minutes after. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim and Transitions! Event comments: I really enjoyed the race and location, this year and last year. Very good event to bring the family, since it is on the beach and they have a turtle release afterwards. DRC (last year) seemed to be more organized than Setup this year. This is Setup's first year in GA so maybe with some more experience for the GA crew, it should only get better. Last updated: 2012-05-15 12:00 AM

Went to bed at 9:30PM the night before. Woke up at 3AM and didn't sleep much more when I finally got out of bed at 5:15AM. Got tri suit on, pump up tires, put transition bag on back, and headed to transition area. Short bike ride (1 - 2 miles) from hotel to transition. Set up transition, got timing chip and markings, went back to transition and waited there until transition closed at 6:45 or so. Ate a Clif Bar and some water while waiting. Then headed to beach. Put on wetsuit at around 7AM. Long wait - the olympic distance went first and was delayed about 30 minutes. The ocean was pretty rough and they had difficulty moving the bouys out further to get past the breakers.
None other than the 1 - 2 mile bike ride from hotel to transition.
