Swim
Comments: Started out great drafting off someone the right speed, but he veered right and I had to pull off, then quickly ended up alone... again. I still enjoy this swim and reminded myself to enjoy it and breast stroked some just to enjoy the view. I had joked with someone before the start that it's not that I'm slow, I'm just taking time to more fully enjoy it. He agreed that we should savor it. I did manage to beat at least one other yellow cap out of the water, but he wasn't in my age group. What would you do differently?: I just don't know. I keep getting slower. Transition 1
Comments: I don't worry about transition much. Its hard to be motivard by a minute when I give up 10-20 in the water. I should learn to jump on the bike at least. Took a gel, forgot to take one before the start. Bike
Comments: I would love to take credit for the 20.196 mph calculated based on the advertised 12 miles, but I know it's less and that's not how I want to make my goal. At least I got under 36 minutes, it just took a short course to do it. Still, this was a very good ride for me. I pushed very hard, past my comfort zone. The rough road was the worst part for me and having prostate issues made it even worse. I loved coming back down Oleander where I could really maintain a good speed. What would you do differently?: I really need to learn to jump on the bike. I can see on the Garmin that I cost myself 30 seconds just getting on. I could also improve my speed through corners. Holding an average just over 20 doesn't do much good if you start, turn, and finish slow. Get a new saddle. Transition 2
Comments: Someone was in my spot and it threw me bad. I was taking time trying to identify who it was so I could just use there spot, but then my stuff wasn't with my bike and I couldn't decide where to leave my helmet. I often worry too much about being polite and too much about my equipment. The actual switching shoes went okay. Took one gel. What would you do differently?: Hope no one takes my spot? Run
Comments: Thought I was going to puke, but was kind of happy about it because my goal was to give the bike all I had. I did manage to keep running and even recovered a bit. Got splashes instead of drinking, had my own 5oz flask of G2. What would you do differently?: I think I could have run the last 1-1.5 miles faster. Post race
Warm down: Nothing. What limited your ability to perform faster: Evil, evil water. Lack of training. I'm a wimp. Event comments: If the pavement was smooth for the bike I'd give it 5 stars. I absolutely love the swim even though I'm the worst at it. Last updated: 2012-05-17 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:15 to drive down. Left at 3:52 and was a little later than I wanted to be. Had to wait until Wilmington for an open Bojangles (although I think the half way one was actually open) and then had to detour around the race course and park which made me pretty late. Scrambled and threw everything together.
Jogged/walked to the swim start. Now that I've done it, I don't see why anyone takes the bus. It's a nice walk and quicker than waiting in line.
