Swim
Comments: Out of the 2 other times I've raced here the water was choppy. Had to get past some waves. Current was strong compared to previous years. With it being an ocean swim, if you're considering this race, be prepared for any conditions. Also, the water here is very murky. Time INCLUDES running all the way to transition - chip mat was at the entrance to transition and I'd say it was about 500 yards away. I don't wear a watch on the swim so I don't know what my true swim time was. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 1
Comments: 3rd fastest T1 split. Not bad for first race of the year. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Bike time includes T2! What would you do differently?: Train in the wind (headwinds) more. Bike more. Don't start riding 6 weeks before the race?! Transition 2
Comments: Bike time includes T2 - seperate times not provided and I didn't keep up with it. What would you do differently?: Not fret over the fact that my neighbor dropped something on my new sunglasses and broke them. :) It is what it is! Run
Comments: I've never had a good run here. This wasn't great, but it was better than anything I've done in the past. I'll take it. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Drink water and be glad I was done! What limited your ability to perform faster: Not training the swim or bike until 6 weeks before the race. Consistency is key. Event comments: I love Jekyll Island. With the new Great Dunes Park, Hampton Inn & Suites and 22 miles of bike trails it's a great place to visit with family. I've raced here four times now and highly recommend it! I won the sprint which is my first time on the podium and first win after 13 years in the sport and over 30+ triathlons - at the age of 42. There is life after 40 for "average" athletes! Last updated: 2012-05-20 12:00 AM
