Swim
Comments: This was one weird swim for me. I anticipated doing it in about 10 minutes...but since this was my first race in water that I couldn't see in...I really got disorientated and couldn't breath normal for about the first 200 yds. FINALLY got my groove and felt good, but then I swam into a person that I physically could not see in the water...her skin tone was the saem as the water! Chocolate! I said I was sorry but I'm not sure she heard me. I just put my head down and plowed forward. Overall, not a bad course...just need to practice in dirty water. What would you do differently?: I will most definitely get in the water prior to race start and do some practice strokes... Transition 1
Comments: Didn't have a wetsuit on...so transition should have been easier and fast for me...but since I'm new I wanted to make sure I did everything right. GREAT space in transition area...paid to get their the night before and stage my bike. What would you do differently?: I am debating socks on the bike ride...don't know how my shoes will smell after or if I'll have blisters but they just didn't seem necessary on the bike. Will try both ways again in the future to decide. Bike
Comments: Forgot to reset my race computer...bummer. Great course...easy - for beginners like me or those new to Tri's - this is a good place to learn and start. I imagine that as I continue to train that I'll come back here just for a confidence booster!! What would you do differently?: Start my bike computer...and remind myself of proper race ettiquette. A nice gentleman reminded my to stay to my right as he passed me...he wasn't mean or rude...just giving me a pointer that I didn't know as a beginner. I won't be that "crazy, new cyclists" before long! Transition 2
Comments: Well...I didn't get my feet out of my shoes...I definitely didn't attempt to jump off my moving bike...I did run with my bike, but I almost did a "veer into the tranisition gate number" while running...and I blew a big snot bubble too. That was gross and I'm pretty sure thats the photo the pro guys got...oh boy. What would you do differently?: Learn to ride with my feet on top of my shoes...and jump from a moving bike! Run
Comments: Fun, easier run - over faster than I expected...the last part of the run is super fun with running by everyone and the hotel. What would you do differently?: No stop to pee in the port-o-johns...I had really forced myself to hydrate as we were told it was going to be a hot day...(it was 90 when I finished...but I should have just held it for a 3 mile race. Also, determine if its okay to liter ground with gel packs? Post race
Warm down: Just water and cold, wet towels. My body temp cooled quickly...sought shade though!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing except my inexperience... Event comments: This is a GREAT beginner race...its a big race atomosphere, but cozy enough that beginners feel good. I would highly recommend this race to a newbie. I also cannot rave enough about the venue...its was just amazing...and the volunteers were fantastic. Lots of support from fans...and I was there by myself...so that helped me. Definitely worth signing up for...I know I will. Maybe for the amateur challenge! Last updated: 2012-05-21 12:00 AM

Got up 2 hrs. prior to race start...ate a banana and a cup of dry cinnamon cheerios. Drove to venue, parked and walked through swim to transition, checked on bike and checked air pressure. Walked to Mount line...found dismount line.
A few basic stretches...got in water to acclimate...super great water temp. Did not actually swim. Will swim in future races.
