Swim
Comments: Getting into the water before was good. I was TOTALLY calm and relaxed from the start. Got some water in the goggles from diving in, but I just stood up and adjusted. Swam in a small pack for a while, but i cleared them after about 300 yards and then swam all alone for the rest of the way. What would you do differently?: This is about as good as I can do right now. Just keep working at the swim. Transition 1
Comments: A little winded running up the hill to T1. Struggled a little getting the wet-suite off, but finally did. Could not get my feet in the cycle shoes. Tried 4 times, telling my mind to get them in. Finally did. LOL. What would you do differently?: Clip the shoes on the bike. I've done this before, but have not practiced for it this year. Bike
Comments: Still a little winded from the swim, and there are some good rolling hills coming out of T1. Really didn't catch my breath until around mile 3, but then got rolling. Had some long runs around 23-25mph. Some nice small hills made it a little tough. Saved a little for the run, so was about 92% perceived rate. What would you do differently?: Not a bad bike leg. Was only passed by 4-5 Tri bikes, not roadies. Passed around 40-50. Transition 2
Comments: Un-clipped and got off bike, but lost a shoe off the pedals. Kim shouted at me and a spectator threw me the shoe. Some rough pavement and I tip-toed through. Feet were a little numb, wonder if my shoes are not quite fitting right. Kinda took my time and got everything ready to go for the run. What would you do differently?: Good enough for today. Run
Comments: Knew I was not in good running shape, so I walked some (4) water stops and got water on my head and in my pants/back. Got some encouragement from one guy and picked it up to the finish. Not bad for only 20 miles in the last month since the injury. What would you do differently?: Not much. Used small steps to get my running legs back. Just not in good enough running shape to run a sub 30 right now, it will come back. Post race
Warm down: Drank some fluids, ate some pizza and nutter-buddies. What limited your ability to perform faster: Run training, but not quite over the injury yet. Event comments: Only reason I didn't give this a 5, is because the race shirt is so plain. But it is a 30 year triathlon, so it has history, and I guess they are sticking to that. Got up at 5:00 and met Nick and we drove down together to Tullahoma. Racked the bike and got packet and marked up. Ate a bagel with peanut-butter and honey, half cup of coffee.
Rode a mile to check the bike out (this was something I didn't do before the last one. Swam in the lake and decided to wear the wet suite, even though the lake was not cold. I got the wet-suite so I might as well use it.
