Swim
Comments: I actually felt fairly comfortable in the water, but I was not going very fast. The wind was very bad and on the last stretch I inhaled a good amount of water twice and did my fair share of decreasing the level of the dam by swallowing water. I noticed after I rounded the bouy that I was off track and actually heading straight into the second wave. I knew I wasn't going very fast when I noticed some of the olympic distance athletes pass me and they only started 2 minutes ahead of me. The swim was very dissapointing to me. What would you do differently?: This time is kind of embarassing. I think I am going to have to give in and get swimming lessons. Took me 20 minutes to swim 500 yds including T1. Transition 1
Comments: For the most part, it went fairly smoothly. Don't have clips so I had to put on socks and shoes. Not fun putting on socks when feet are wet. What would you do differently?: Work on getting off wetsuit and get clipless pedals. Pretty happy with time considering I had shoes and socks to put on AND tie. Bike
Comments: The wind was BRUTAL. Since it was and out and back course, we had a tailwind out. AVG speed out was 20 mph. Avg speed back was more like 13 (not sure). Had 2 mishaps. Had to stop at the beginning of my ride because my bike computer fell off. My chain also came off and I had to stop to put it back on. What would you do differently?: Get bike shoes and pedals. I also need to get a bike that fits properly. Borrowing a bike that is just a little too big. Need to be able to get in a more aero position, especially with that head wind. Transition 2
Comments: T2 is good for me because I don't have to change shoes. What would you do differently?: nothing that I can think of now. Run
Comments: I improved my running time by over 1 min/mile from last year. Very happy with this. Felt pretty good. Did walk twice for 30 seconds each. Not bad considering I used a walk/run method for my half marathon training. Wind was sheltered a bit for the run so it wasn't quite as much of a factor. What would you do differently?: Continue to do brick workouts and keep up run endurance. Post race
Warm down: Just ate some fresh fruit and visited with my family and people that I knew. What limited your ability to perform faster: I had very limited time to swim and bike since I didn't do either one over the winter. I also need to lose some additional weight. Event comments: Definitely needed some garbages. This race is growing in popularity. I think it doubled its entries this year. Changed venues and has made it less intimidating for the swim. Will do it again next year. Last updated: 2012-05-22 12:00 AM

Race was at 10:00. Woke up at 07:00. Ate a cliff bar and drank some coffee. Got out to the race site at 8:30. Got transition area set up. Had the bike mechanic help with my brake. It was rubbing the night before but couldn't figure out how to fix it. I tried filling rear tire but wasn't able to get it (crappy pump). Had to go back to bike mechanic. Ate 3 cliff blocks 30 minutes before race.
Didn't leave enough time for warm-up. Mentally went over transition but did not do any warm-ups. Need to arrive earlier so I have time for this.
