Age Group Rank = 18/18
Pre-race routine:

Ate a waffle at the local hotel,
Event warmup:

try not the lose the aforementioned waffle waiting to hit the water for the swim.
Swim
  • 08m 24s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 48s / 100 yards
Comments:

lined up by estimated swim time, which I over estimated (including the run to T1 by close to 2 minutes, entered the water one person every 20 seconds.. knew I hadn't trained freestyle enough to have a confident stroke, did the first 200yrds breaststroke, carefully trying to time my kicks as to not hit anyone in the lane next to me.
What would you do differently?:

learn to swim :-)
Transition 1
  • 02m 38s
Comments:

had not practiced the transition, and it showed, couldn't get me socks on (still using pedal cages) and walked to the mount line..
Bike
  • 43m 28s
  • 9 miles
  • 12.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Noticed shortly after the turnaround that I hadn't flipped the little lever on my front brakes down after reattaching my front tire, reached down and latched it, but in doing so, I'm pretty sure I caused one of the pads to start to drag a bit against the rim.. add that to a fairly brutal headwind and a long steady uphill portion, and I was pretty gassed by the time I hit what should have been a fast finish , nice downhill turning into a flat residential section back to the community center.
What would you do differently?:

Perform PMCS on the bike when setting up transition.
Transition 2
  • 02m 47s
Comments:

weather had warmed up enough that the long sleeve fleece that I needed for the bike was going to cook me on the run, and I lacked a bib belt, so had to move the race bib to a t-shirt with cold shaky hands..ugh
What would you do differently?:

Buy a bib belt (done) so any transition wardrobe changes can be done on the fly
Run
  • 24m 45s
  • 2.25 miles
  • 11m  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt really weird, as I hadn't bricked enough to be comfortable with the feeling.. legs came around about 1.5 miles in as I started to pass some walkers.. nephew ran me in the last 100 yards or so.. was a welcome gesture..
Post race
Warm down:

walked, re-hydrated, walkes some more, stretched..

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of tri-specific training, not knowing how to properly swim.

Event comments:

My overall goal was to finish and not be last.. both of which I accomplished... so, yay me... now on to finding a full sprint later this summer, and learning how to swim for such an event.
