Swim
Comments: Swim felt really great. I felt like I seated myself perfectly. I never passed the girl in front of me, but the person behind me never even got close to me at all. Concentrated on even breathing and not starting out too hard. Very happy w/ my overall swim performance. What would you do differently?: I did not use flip turns because they still wear me down too much, but I want to be able to use these by the next Tri that I do in a pool. Transition 1
Comments: Goggles/Swim cap off, dried off (probably took longer than I should have), pulled on socks and then compression sleeves, put on bike shoes, headband, helmet, glasses. Consumed 1 hammer gel and about 1 cup of water. This transition had a longer-than-usual distance between grabbing the bike and crossing the mount line. What would you do differently?: Took my time on this transition, and in hind-sight wish I had rushed more. Bike
Comments: Really took advantage of the down-hill sections and made good progress on those. Long stretch down Broadway into a headwind tried to stay in low bars. Worked on maintaining a cadence of 85-95 the entire time, but didn't even get close to this on the two big uphill climbs. Had to "stair-step" both of those in my lowest gear. Jaime said that I looked like I was "sitting up" more than a lot of the other riders, so I need to analyze/work on that, I guess. Overall though, I was very happy w/ my bike performance! What would you do differently?: I should have spent more time in the low bars, but my unfamiliarity w/ the technical course resulted in me spending a bit more time than I would have liked to w/ my brakes/gears in easy reach. Definitely need to work on hill climbing!!! Transition 2
Comments: I felt like this transition went fairly well. Run
Comments: I had absolutely nothing left at this point. My legs were toast, and I'm not used to running hills and they completely tore me up. I started out w/ a decent pace of around 8:40 but that quickly slowed down to 10:30 Plus. Split Times: 9:00, 10:34, 10:40 What would you do differently?: I have no idea, but something! I definitely need to spend more time training my running. Post race
Warm down: "Pure" Protein + Carb Recovery Drink immediately post race Small Chicken breast + Sweet Potato baby food 30 minutes post race. Stretched a bit and sat down for a while - legs gave out on me shortly after finish line. What limited your ability to perform faster: I really feel like the run was my limiting factor on this race. Also, should have stayed in low bars for more of the bike. Would like to purchase/become confident in Aero bars before my next tri.
