Swim
Comments: Overall, felt like I swam a good pace, shoulders burned early slowed it down. Bilateral breathing was difficult, lots of chop from racers. Difficult to navigate with murkey water. I wanted to draft but it was too difficult to spot anybody to draft off of. Not much improvement from last year. A little dissapointing What would you do differently?: I need to get a new set of goggles that don't fog up and better visibility. Maybe clear lenses. Transition 1
Comments: The transition was pretty bad, chip seal sucked and there was gravel all over the place, tough to move fast and an uphill mount was difficult. Placed nutrition in the helmet to place in my pockets. What would you do differently?: Nothing, good performance, not the fastest to have nutrition sitting in the helmet. Bike
Comments: The bike was really enjoyable, kept my cadence up and hr maintainable during short hills, passed a lot of people with gear range. Maintained speeds uphill and recovered on short downhills. Fast coming back, stayed in the aero position well. Positioning on the saddle uncomfortable on the way back a little. Passed quite a few people, noticable speed difference with tri-bike vs road bike on windy portions of the bike. What would you do differently?: Get a tri bike some day. Transition 2
Comments: Since the transition was coming in on gravel I decided to keep my shoes on. Then when I arrived they moved carpeting so I could have taken my shoes off and ran without hurting my feet just fine. What would you do differently?: Take shoes off before transition, ask about transition before race. Run
Comments: Right quad started cramping downhill at mile 1+, drank water shortly after. No nutrition on the run. Let a faster runner in my age group pass me the first mile, too fast. I maintained my cadence and HR, leg didn't feel great and hr jumped at mile 4 or so. Not sure why it jumped up so much. Fellow age grouper passed me at mile 4.5 or so, I wasn't going to let him go. I stayed on his tail and at the top of the hill at mile 5 I passed him and upped the pace. He stayed with me but I eventually wore him down. HR 170+ and finished 10 seconds ahead of him to secure 5th place in my age group. PR on the run. What would you do differently?: Maybe drink more in bike to help reduce cramping. Post race
Warm down: Felt terrible after finishing. Body was really uncomfortable. I drank a chocolate milk and walked around, stretching and walking to cool down. Meal served 1:30 after finishing. What limited your ability to perform faster: Goggles that fogged didn't help, slower than normal transition/gravel didn't help. Event comments: I wish they would acknowledge the age group winners better. Podium spots should be better. Instead of just announcing, I think they should have somewhere to stand with their "medal" all together. Last updated: 2012-05-25 12:00 AM

There was no parking up top so I turned around and parked at the bottom about a mile away. Set up everything and got do to a quick warm up on my bike. Arrived at 7:30, picked up my packet, set up transition.
Rode my bike from my car to race area, did a little stretching, jumped in the water, swam about 400 before the pre race meeting. I didn't have people with me so I didn't feel like warming up and leaving everything out in the open. Would have liked to swim longer to warm up.
