Swim
Comments: Lined up on right. Figured everyone goes left so I went right and lined up in back. Got beat up the whole first half. One guy even gave me a half hug in the water - his left arm over my left shoulder. That was new. Took less of a beating after the turnaround but kept zig-zagging and wasn't sure where the "out" was. I need a nice arch to sight off. Way out of breath when I got out of the water to run. Weazed a thank you to one of my TCMC teammates as I ran out. What would you do differently?: Practice sighting more. It was good experience being in the fray despite getting slapping and kicked. It helped me learn to focus. Next time I'll have more of a plan and not do things on an impulse. Transition 1
Comments: I was out of breath. That was a long haul up the hill. Forgot I cleverly put my electrolyte pills in my shoes. They stayed there for 23 + miles. What would you do differently?: Stay calm and move deliberately. Bike
Comments: Tough beginning. I struggled in the headwind and got passed six times in the first mile or so. Then I started passing quite a few people. Sadly, no one in my division. Only ate two gel packs. I brought three, but must have lost one. What would you do differently?: Need more hill training. I'd say take it easier on the bike, but I admit I didn't want Eric to catch up with me so I was going faster than normal. Bring extra gel packs. Transition 2
Comments: I just never got around to putting elastic laces, so I had to tied my shoes the old fashioned way. It takes me forever, just ask my wife. Took two electrolyte pills. What would you do differently?: Elastic ties. Run
Comments: 7:20 to start, realized I was messing up. Still didn't back off enough, so first three miles under 8 mins each. Started quad cramps on mile 3. Couple of minutes walking there. Stopped and drank at each stop. Didn't have to pour water on myself until the 5th one. Definitely slowed after mile 3. I usually pick up the pace in the last mile, this time I opted for doing so in the last 0.1 miles. What would you do differently?: Slow down out of transition. Why can I not learn this??? Post race
Warm down: Visit with friends and eat bad for you food. Drank coca-cola provided by TC Multisports Club. Membership has its benefits! Walked into lake and then went home. What limited your ability to perform faster: Genetics. Event comments: I enjoyed the race. I would like to see something big on the beach for me to aim for. This is a big improvement over my 2010 lifetime Oly where I ate a burrito the night before and cramped on the swim. Fun to see people I know out there and competitors and volunteers were very positive. Last updated: 2012-05-26 12:00 AM
