Pre-race routine:

slept at local hotel - sleep was OK, not stellar (it never is!). stuck with essentially same routine as in training - coffee, oatmeal, and some e-load for breakfast.
Event warmup:

didn't do much, just went for a short out and back swim. next race i will increase the warm up time.

could't relax on the swim. started out too hard which was not part of the race plan! i didn't have my garmin on, but could tell my HR was higher than i wanted coming out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

HR was probably too low when the gun went off which probably was why it took 400m+/- of the race to get 'comfortable'. next time will do a better warm up to get HR up.

wetsuit came off totally fine. i love that wetsuit. however took me almost 1km to get my feet secured in my shoes. my own fault - first race in 5 years and didn't practice this at all before. ran into some difficulties, nudged a pylon and almost lost one shoe.

overall tho it was a good T time considering.
What would you do differently?:

need to practice this method a little more before the next race!

was not able to get 'comfortable' on the bike. didn't feel as strong as usual. was probably due to the swim. still ended up with an OK avg., but could have done better here. i think the swim impacted my bike. maybe in a longer race i would be able to settle in more.
What would you do differently?:

need to get used to eating and drinking on the bike while in aero. realized today that i have not practiced that. stomach didn't want any GU so i didnt take any. had a few gulps of eload but should have had more.

HR was high on the run. however i was able to maintain a sub-4min km essentially in 'survival' mode, which i am happy with overall. on a short course like this i would have preferred to be in the 3:40/km range however - especially based on where my training runs were/are at.
What would you do differently?:

need to work on transition running in training. i have been doing t-runs but not focusing on quick transitions - for race simulation need to make sure the t-runs at home are quick - i've been giving myself too much rest between the bike and run at home.

Warm down:

not much. felt pretty good probably since it was a fairly short race so didn't do too much damage.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

overall fitness, bike strength, run durability.

Event comments:

good event, course was good. next year will probably look at doing the 3/4 distance.
