Run
Comments: I met an English guy at the start and we ran together for the first 5k which was fun but meant I was a bit slow, after that I tried to pick up the pace then relax for the first 16k and then focussed hard on maintaining the pace up to 32k . At 34k the whole atmosphere changed, people were collapsing, the road got blocked by an ambulance and runners were cramping or walking all of a sudden. My legs were really tight and my gait got bad and I started to get ITB pain in my right knee which really slowed me down. I just wanted to finish at that point but managed to push hard and had a great final 1k with amazing crowd support and a wall of sound in the finishing area! What would you do differently?: I think a few long runs up to 38km would help if I'd had a longer training time but otherwise it all went well. Post race
Warm down: Stretched, ate bananas and oranges and drank some sport drink and a bottle of water What limited your ability to perform faster: If the race had finished at 32km I'd have been fine but that last 10k really tested me. I think more long runs would have helped. Event comments: This was a great first marathon, thanks to everyone in the MG for your support! If I do another one I'd love to know how to conquer that last 10k! Last updated: 2012-05-27 12:00 AM

Got up at 4am and had instant oats and a banana plus coffee. Went back to bed until 5:45 then got the shuttle bus to the race start. Had a gel 15mins before the start.
No warm up, just chatted with people
