Swim
Comments: 50 meters into the swim my velcro watch slipped off and I had to hold it in my hand while swimming the rest of the 500+ yards of the swim. This was the biggest pain in the but. Swimmers were considerate of everyone's space. I made pretty good time. I expected around 15 minutes and got 13:48, which I was happy about. There were enough lifeguards as well. You could spot pretty easily as long as my goggles didn't fog up, and they did. What would you do differently?: Get a new watch! Use goggle de-fogger. Transition 1
Comments: 300 participant limit so the transition was not terribly packed. Out of the water you go up the boat ramp and round the back of the transition. I went slow, put on my socks, and shoes. Transition went well until I mounted my bike. Somehow I did no check my speedometer sensor on my fork and it knocked off my magnet on my wheel. What would you do differently?: Make sure everything on the speedometer is set up nad good to go before I leave the transition. Bike
Comments: At this point I am pissed off because now I do not have a working speedometer. I had to peadle by feel. I passes a lo of people. I ride a $300 Tommaso Tiempo and I was passing bikes 4 times the price. I thought, "I don't need an expensive road bike." A person got hit by a car and I felt bad for them when I passed the accident. I hope they are ok. I felt a little slow and my time proved it. My goal was to ge under an hour and i missed that by 2 mins. There were a lot of volunteers out directing and a lot of police. This was a closed course but there was an occational vehicle to contend with. What would you do differently?: Invest in clip on aero bars. Transition 2
Comments: Ran with the bike shoes on. Works better for me because I am too clumsy to do all the riding with feet on top of shoes and jumping off a moving bike. Transition went fine. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: The run went well. Half way i had to stop for a pee break. You are running in the woods so that is possible. There were a lot of cometitors to talk with and a good amount of people to cheer you on at the pavement parts. I was able to say hi to a cometeitor friend about 2 miles in before I passed her. There is one water station you loop back to a second time. The run was faster than I expected. I figured over 30 minutes but it took 29:04. Go me! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Stretch. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fogged up goggles, had to hold my watch during swim, los the magnetfor my speedometer so the speedo was useless. Event comments: This was a very well organized race. The swim course is great. The bike course tried to be closed offto the best of he volunteers ability. The run is in a state park that is mostly shaded. They have food, drinks, and free massages afterwards. The transition area was set up good. The staff were directing where to go easily. Everything was clearly marked and easy to follow. Overall I give the race crew for Red Hills an A+. Now I know what I need to do for my next race. Last updated: 2012-05-27 12:00 AM

Woke up early but apparently not early enough.
We got there and had to park over a mile away, literally. I walked halfway there wih my wife and rode my bike the other half because I didn't want to be late. Got there about 15 minutes early so I didn't warm up. But being clydesdale, I was the last heat. Volunteers mark your number as soon as you get to the entrance.
