Overcast
Total Time = 1h 26m 33s
Overall Rank = 33/114
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 9/30
Pre-race routine:

Race was cut on the morning of the event due to weather. Swim moved from east to west strand due to waves, bike cut to one lap due to surface water and the run proportionally shortened. More like a non-standard sprint than an oly. Routine was shot as a result waiting to hear what was happening.
Event warmup:

No real time for a warm up. With the swim being shifted from East to West Strand and the bikes and shoes being left in two separate places it was all a bit confused. Managed a jog down the beach to the start and a quick swim but that was it.
Swim
  • 15m
  • 1000 meters
  • 01m 30s / 100 meters
Comments:

Cold water but manageable. 9th out of the water
Busted as usual but consistent with previous years performance
What would you do differently?:

Upper body conditioning.
Transition 1
  • 03m 50s
Comments:

decision to layer up for the bike due to conditions. Consequently I was 39 out of T1.

What would you do differently?:

Treat it like a race! So slow getting out of T1. Looked at results and think I could have had a to 20 finish if I;d made the effort. Lesson learned.
Bike
  • 40m 55s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 19.80 mile/hr
Comments:

Happy with that. Good pace considering the conditions and wasn't left as previous years. Well up to pace on the uphills but get left on the descents. Not sure what a second lap would have done to me though at that pace.
What would you do differently?:

New wheels I think
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Not a bad T2. Got socks on for the run, bit feet were so cold I couldn't feel the toes
What would you do differently?:

run with shoes on rather than feet on top maybe. Worth a try.
Run
  • 25m 35s
  • 3.7 miles
  • 06m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

Blinder. negative split each mile. Just kept getting faster. Legs were toast after the ride but loosened up and I was away. anyone who passed me on the first mile was caught on the beach
What would you do differently?:

More Brick training. Legs were really bad off the bike. But otherwise really happy with that
Post race
Warm down:

hugs and kisses from the girls. What more could you want.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Weather and poor decision about layering up in t1.

Event comments:

This would be a fabulous race if the weather would only co-operate
