Age Group Rank = 19/22
Pre-race routine:

Got up at around 4, was packed from the night before, left Matt's house around 4:45, took about an hour to get there. Had no idea what all needed to be done, thankfully Matt was there to tell me as much as possible, even though I didn't bring the swim cap to the start, they still let me go with no problem - would have just weighed me down anyway!
Event warmup:

drank some water, had a package of gu, and walked 1/2 m to start
Swim
  • 28m 17s
  • 805 meters
  • 03m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

Knew the swim was going to be my worst part, but didn't know how bad it would affect me for every thing else, seemed like an eternity for me to get to the end. All in all though it was about the same pace I had been getting in a pool so shouldn't feel to bad, just need to practice swimmiong more, after the first 200m had no technique or breathing rythym working, although by the end I was so tired I was just taking nice slow easy strokes and was actually doing better but couldn't get enough oxygen at a time to sustain it
What would you do differently?:

Just need to keep hitting the pool and get my technique and stamina built up
Transition 1
  • 03m 11s
Comments:

For my first time and being tired as i was coming out of the water didn't do to bad,, just had to put on shoes, socks, helmet, shirt and exit , also took a quick drink and had a pack of gu.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 42m 51s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 18.90 mile/hr
Comments:

started out slow, around 15 to 16 mph until i felt my energy coming back, was really able to pick it up on the way back and averaged probably over 20 which for me is great. Was actually my fastest avg time I've had biking that distance yet, so was happy with the bike portion
What would you do differently?:

maybe have pushed a little harder in the beginning, was scared of tiring out at the end.
Transition 2
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

was fine with the transistion here also, didn't have much trouble putting the bike back. Got a drink, which probably shuoldn't have done.
Run
  • 33m 4s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Was disappointed with my run performance since I know what type of times I am capable of in a 5k. Think I over hydrated at the end of the bike in preperation. When I started out jogging i felt like I was going to puke, right away and had to walk, probably walked for the first mile before i could get back into rythym, ran the whole length back on the beach and felt fine, even better once I crossed the finish line.
What would you do differently?:

Think the run part was part mental to, By then I knew I was going to finish and wasn't really concerned about my time, just getting to the end. Next time will push myself harder to keep going.
Post race
Event comments:
