Pre-race routine:

Got up at 6:00 and was at the beach site by 0645. Packet up went smoothly. Went to scout start/finish line and secure area for the kids to put they things. As the race got close just got my gogles & swim cap and was ready to go. Perfect weather, but what would you expect for Hawaii!
Event warmup:

No warm up. It was a beach start and didn't to get in and out of the water for the start.

Comments:

It was a nice race friendly race, no punching or kicking as everyone was in a "hang loose" mode. Swimming out to the island, we had a nice current pulling us toward the island. I had a feet to draft for that part of the race. As we got closer to the island the current changed, and we were fighting to swim toward and around the island. This section really took its toll on me as I was pass (as less it felt like it)by serveral swimmers. After rounded the island the current wasn't as strong. At this section I wasn't able to find someone to swim with as most of the swimmer were farther apart. I was getting tired to tried to catch up with them. I just swam and was looking for the finish bouy as I was done swimming
What would you do differently?:

Pace slower in the first half of the race.

Great race. Need to plan my vacation for this race again.
