Run
Comments: Started out slowly as planned. We cruised along near the back of the pack for the first 2 miles, taking the hills easy, then picked it up toward the end of the 5K. The overwhelming majority of people running were doing the 5K, but we started picking them off over the second half of the 5K course. Once we hit the SCT, we continued to push the pace slightly going out as it was uphill. Once we hit the turnaround, we picked up the pace again for the last mile and a half. Matthew (one of my co-workers), started his kick about a half mile out, a before I really wanted to. I stayed with him until the last couple hundred yards, then his youth got the best of me. What would you do differently?: Not much, as I ran the race I wanted to run. Perhaps kicking more at the end of my runs to get used to a long kick. Post race
Warm down: BBQ from Jim & Nick's. No beer at this one, so I had to settle for sweet tea. What limited your ability to perform faster: The extra 40 pounds I am still carrying around. Need to get serious again about getting that weight off. Event comments: A good, small, local race and for a good cause. As I mentioned, most of the people ran the 5K, with only 25-30 people running the 10. Matthew and I finished 13th & 14th overall with a 1+ hour time. All three of us from the office ended up on the podium in our respective AG's. Last updated: 2012-06-01 12:00 AM

This was an evening race, so nutrition was a bit different. My biggest concern was eating too much at lunch and feeling sluggish. I ran the 10K with one of my co-workers and a third co-worker ran the 5K. We decided on Chinese for lunch since it always fills us up, then leaves us hungry again in a few hours. Worked perfectly in this case, as I was ready to eat again by the time we left work. Mongolian Beef with two cups of hot & sour soup for me.
Just the walk from my car.
