Swim
Comments: Felt fine. Water had some chop and waves but very manageable. Not too much interference on course or at buoys. Third out of water in my wave though 2 passed me running down the pier. What would you do differently?: Nothing e Transition 1
Comments: Had some trouble getting black shoes on and lost a few seconds. No socks. Had interference getting out of T1 with bike due to person ahead was walking and then the usual cluster at the mount area, which I was finally able to run through/around before a flying mount. Transition was tight due to a tree in the aisle but end spot helped. What would you do differently?: Maybe not wear those shoes as the white ones are easier to get on without socks. Needed to be more aggressive in getting safely by people dawdling on the way out of T1. Bike
Comments: Good bike leg considering I haven't been working much on cycling. Coasted briefly to get a persistent drafter off my wheel. What would you do differently?: Not coast at all as it does not benefit me, though I hate when someone uses my effort to break the rules. Transition 2
Comments: Minimal trouble racking bike despite aforementioned tree and someone else trying to deal with that. Saved a moment by wearing race number throughout and pulled number out of shorts when exited T2. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Good run for me but that's still not saying much :-) Took a moment to backtrack to go under a hose soon after exiting T2. Walked past first and second drink stations and at MM 3 for a total about 50 yards. Oops, what an error!!! Was paced well by another woman throughout and found a kick at the end to pass her. Too little, too late!!! What would you do differently?: NOT go back for the hose, NOT walk so much at the drink stations or elsewhere, NOT give up before the race even starts. I missed placing despite a good run (for me) because I made the invalid assumption that placing was out of reach and I didn't give 100%. Training and learning to run better would help too. Post race
Warm down: Thought I would die from the end of race run sprint but felt better after five minutes. Cold towels at finish really helped. Met most goal times What limited your ability to perform faster: I did not believe I could place so made some stupid decisions. Missed 3rd place by 3.5 seconds. Arrrrgggggggghhhhhh!!!!!! Event comments: I sold myself short and probably missed placing by 3.5 seconds because of that. Lesson learned! Despite that it was one of my better races and I met all goals but running in under 35 minutes. OTOH, I exceeding OA time goal by almost 3 minutes. Too bad it was not 3 min and 1 second.... Arrrrgggggggghhhhhh!!!!!! Would have taken first in Athena (13 contenders) - both 40+ and overall (22 total contenders). Last updated: 2012-06-04 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00. Grits, yogurt, banana, caffeine. Race was delayed 30 minutes because timing chips were not available on time but distribution was very orderly when they became available.
Was not sure what to do as late chips required us to be in transition area when I had planned to warm up. Ran around the block twice 45 min ahead and swam 5 minutes about 15 min ahead. This was adequate. Ate Clif shot blocks 30 min ahead since race was delayed 30 min.
