Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45. Oatmeal, coffee and a banana. Forgot to take coffee for the drive, so just sipped on water and listened to some music. Arrived at the race at 6:30. No rush, very relaxed pre-race.
Event warmup:

Biked the beginning and the end of the course, and did a very short jog.
Swim
  • 10m 16s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 20s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was one of my best swims as far as execution and feel. There was a lot of contact and I passed a lot of people. My goal was a solid steady swim, and I think I pulled that off. I came out of the water feeling strong.

Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Had a little trouble getting my foot clipped in. It was almost a little comical. How hard is it, really?
Bike
  • 47m 10s
  • 13.8 miles
  • 17.55 mile/hr
Comments:

I was sure my average was going to be over 18mph. Not sure, and didn't think to check my bike computer until I walked it back to the car. I remembered to so some stretching toward the end of the ride and need to make sure I always to that. My calves were getting tight and certainly would have been cramping as soon as I started the run.

Had a couple fasties pass me on the bike, but passed a lot of others--even a few men.
What would you do differently?:

More race specific training
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

I did it! I got my feet out of my shoes at the end of the ride and was able to just hop off the bike and run it in like a pro! Oh yeah!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 39m 15s
  • 3.52 miles
  • 11m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Better than last year. (that's me trying to put a positive twist on it). I walked the aid stations and stretched a couple times. I'm not sure why running is so hard for me, but it just is. My calves and legs were so tight that I'm sure they would have started cramping had I gone much faster. I have more work to do, that's all there is to it.

Oh, there was only water at the aid stations, and somewhere along the way, I lost my gel out of my pocket. I'm sure that get would have made all the difference :-)
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on focusing when it hurts. It's improving.
Post race
Warm down:

Hang out with the other Triple Treat and BT people.

Event comments:

I like the way they run the awards ceremony. They start with the oldest groups and work their way down to the youngest. Oldest triathlete there today was 87. That's freekin' awesome!
