Swim
Comments: Felt like I was decent in the water, but pretty disappointed with my overall time and place. Feel like I should have been nearly a minute faster than I was. What would you do differently?: I started way on the outside of the pack and didn't get a great line to the marker. I was probably 10-15 meters outside of most everyone else for the whole swim, which added a decent distance for the course. Need to just suck it up and start more on the inside and take the battle that will ensue. Transition 1
Comments: Lightning fast T1. One of the faster times of all participants, might be due to the good spot I had. Literally just threw cap/goggles down on the towel, put helmet and sunglasses on, grabbed the bike and was off. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Didn't have as good of a bike as I should have. I'll have to check my watch data later and edit, but I believe the course was longer than 18 miles. Rough road for the first/last few miles. I didn't handle the hills as well as I would have liked, and didn't push myself quite enough on the way back. I was too concerned about the longer run, but I don't think I helped myself on the run by holding back as much as I did. What would you do differently?: Push a little harder. Transition 2
Comments: The bike next to mine was in my way a little, which cost me maybe 3-4 seconds, but no big deal. I got my shoes and race belt on quick enough and was off. I put my hat on while I was running. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: Hips/legs were really struggling in the second mile, couldn't get up the hill. Gave it what I had, but it wasn't much. Frustrating getting passed as much as I do there. Saw my friend pass me, and then a few minutes later made a charge to try to catch up to him in the last mile, but couldn't close the distance. Needed to start that charge a bit earlier and go a bit harder. What would you do differently?: Train better for the longer run. Post race
Warm down: Sat down and relaxed. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor running ability, bad position and course line in the swim, and too much of a mental game on the bike. Event comments: Very good race. Anything negative about this race is related to my own issues, not anything the organizers did. Last updated: 2012-06-05 12:00 AM

Arrived very early in the morning in order to get a prime transition spot. Set up the bike and then went back to the car to sleep a bit.
Got in a short ride, a very short run, and then a few hundred meters in the water.
