Total Time = 1h 28m 59s
Overall Rank = 90/150
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 4/8
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 4:00, showered, ate a bagel and banana, drank water, and left for the race at 5:30.
Event warmup:

Light jog thru the village of Cooperstown. A beautiful morning, so I snapped some pictures of Otsego Lake.
Swim
  • 15m 37s
  • 800 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Start more in the middle of the pack. I started in the back thinking I was a very weak swimmer, but I ended up pacing almost half the females. Wasted time navigating around weak swimmers and those who were doing the breast stroke.
Transition 1
  • 01m 50s
Comments:

A few spectators were in the way of the transition path. Climbed a hill right out of T1 so I had to stand and ride for the first 30 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 43m 33s
  • 11.6 miles
  • 15.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Nice course, but the road conditions in some places were poor. 16 90 degree turns in <12 miles made the course challenging for navigation.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a road bike. Though there is great pleasure of passing people with road and tri bikes while you are riding a $400 mountain bike.
Transition 2
  • 00m 33s
Comments:

Wore sneakers on the bike, quick transition, but my bike fell over 3 times in the rack. Probably lost 10 seconds right there.
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 27m 26s
  • 3 miles
  • 09m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Quite a hilly 3 miles. The finish line was down a grass hill that forced you to run sidewards. Very dangerous with tree roots. Couldn't push it towards the end. Knee really started bothering me too, so I kept my place a little slower.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a little bit, then ate.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Riding a moutain bike and a sore right knee.

Event comments:

The last 100 yards of the run was very dangerous. Cars were on the same path as runners and the downhill finish on wet grass was not conducive to running at a normal pace.
