Run
Comments: very quick run, I had not set my watch up for 2 runs so I all I could see was distance and time. Just ran on feel, and tried to feel comfortable and not push it. Race said it was a mile but it was a bit longer. What would you do differently?: nothing Transition 1
Comments: first time changing from running shoes to cycling What would you do differently?: had a little issue with releasing the lock laces but not a big issue. Bike
Comments: Overall great ride, I really tried to not push it to hard but a few times had to push it to pass people or groups. There was a group of guys I kept playing tag with but on the ride back I was finally able to drop them on the bridge. I was lucky I had not sprint distance riders making their u-turn in front of me when coming back down the bridge. A few people got drafting penalties as the came down and got stuck in the group. What would you do differently?: Not much, ride went pretty well. Transition 2
Comments: pretty good, since I had my Garmin on my wrist due to the run first I didn't have to worry about taking that off the bike. Run
Comments: I started the run and tried to hold the pace back from prior races due to the heat. As I did have a positive split from mile 1 to 2 I did hold the pace from 2 to mile 4. Mile 5 and then again mile 6 were negative splits. The age group winner and second place both caught me on the run but I could not keep up with the pace they running. As I picked up the pace I was really feeling good, but the last .5 mile until I saw the finish line were a bit tough. Took water at each station and dumped it either on the top of my head or on the back of my neck. I took water at the first station then Gatorade at the others. Only took sip, tried to not gulp What would you do differently?: Not sure I would do much different. Post race
Warm down: warm down, did a ten minute easy run and then a dip in the river. What limited your ability to perform faster: the heat as well as the expectation of the heat and my ability to run. As I have gotten a lot faster and made great progress, many other competitors in my age group can hold paces much faster. Event comments: I was disappointed with the swim being canceled but there was lightning still coming down over the water and the right call. There were a few mistakes by the race organizers throughout the day but there was a lot going on with the damage from the storm the night before, the storm going on right before and such. With that, taking the 10 lead riders off course was not cool and how it was handled after was not the best. Also the penalties given to International riders who got stuck when coming down the bridge and having to mix with sprint rides who just made their U-turn. Having the two distances at the same time was not the best call. Last updated: 2012-06-09 12:00 AM
