Swim
Comments: My strength is definitely the swim, but I'm still not good at siting or swimming straight. The water was relatively calm and the temperature seemed only a bit chilly. I'm pretty sensitive to cold water but this was no biggie, even without a wet suit. In general it was a solid swim with no asthma problems or suit difficulties. The salt water felt good on my sore throat. What would you do differently?: Get off the couch and go to more swim practices. Do more open water swimming for experience and maybe check out a clinic. Transition 1
Comments: I missed the mini tub with water for your feet so I had pretty dirty feet. In the time I got socks on over my sandy feet, some elite-speed-pro had come in and gotten a wet suit off and taken off with is 6k rocket. I'm not seasoned enough to have my shoes already attached to my bike but I've got a tread on my bike shoes that allows me to run in them no problem, which was pretty helpful during ~100meters from my bike rack to the mount area. What would you do differently?: No socks. And learn to jump on the bike and strap in on the go. Bike
Comments: I felt pretty weak here. But it was still fun with a zillion bikers everywhere. On the turns I could see my race buddy gaining time on me which gave me an extra nudge. What would you do differently?: More saddle time Transition 2
Comments: It was solid. I strung up new speed laces the night before which helped. What would you do differently?: not much. Run
Comments: This was my best run ever. I PR'd by over 3 minutes! Running was supposed to be my biggest weakness. I took a sip of water at the first two water stations and tried not to gulp since I've cramped hard in everyother 5k due to too much water. Occasionally I would look back and see my friend slowly catching up to me. Unfortunately I should have just kept forward; He passed me in the last 100m with the whole crowd to see! I'm not bummed at all about this, in fact it was the best part of the day. In these kinds of races it isn't common to have a friend even remotely near you. What would you do differently?: nothing. Post race
Warm down: Walk around a bit, pancakes bagels and bananasssss What limited your ability to perform faster: The flu, a sore throat and a week of no training Event comments: FUN INDEED. relatively easy swim. tight bike course with lots of racers, and flat. best run ever. good day Last updated: 2012-06-10 12:00 AM

Unfortunately I had the flu since the beginning of the week and was still a bit under the weather on race day with a sore throat. I hadnt trained at all that week so I was a bit nervous. Woke up at 5, squeezed my bike inside my dad's car; no bike rack. I had a nice dish of pasta the night before and I ate a cliff bar and nibbled on some shot blocks along with vitamin water.
I didn't properly warm up but there was a nice 1/4 walk on the beach to the swim start. I did a few back and forths in the water to get mentally ready - not much of a warm up though.
