Total Time = 2h 39m 54s
Overall Rank = 51/167
Age Group = 40-44M
Age Group Rank = 6/18
Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 4:00 and had some oatmeal and green tea. Packed up the car and hit the road by 4:30. I ate a bagel w/ PB and a banana around 5:30 during the car ride. Got to the race about 6:45. Got bodymarked, racked, and set up by 7:10.
Event warmup:

Not as much as I would like. Did some light running.
Swim
  • 39m 57s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 26s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt fairly good in the water - however my time was slow. I felt like my navigation, breathing, rounding the bouy, etc was all ok - not great - but ok. When I was in the water I knew I wasn't killing this swim but was pretty disappointed to see it took me nearly 40 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Work with my coach to see what I can do to improve. Maybe be more aggressive in the water? I don't think endurance is the problem. Probably need to work on speed so I can kick into an extra gear when needed.
Transition 1
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Fastest T1 I've had since I've been doing tri's. Made some easy (and obvious - no socks, swiming with a tri top on, etc) adjustments and it paid off. Feel good about T1.
What would you do differently?:

Probably spend some time practicing T1.
Bike
  • 1h 10m 51s
  • 22 miles
  • 18.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike leg for me. This portion of the race continues to improve. I focused on keeping my HR between 135 - 145. I didn't deviate from that plan. I feel like it worked as I felt strong throughout the race. There was one last climb near the end of the ride that everyone around me was struggling with. I was able to power up the hill and maintain speed after the hill. I felt good.
What would you do differently?:

For this particualr race - not too much. Keep training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

Not bad but could be better.
What would you do differently?:

I stood still while putting on my race belt. Should be running out of T2 while doing this.
Run
  • 46m 40s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 07m 32s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt good on the run. Found my legs right away.
What would you do differently?:

My legs felt good. Should have pushed a little harder during the first mile. Overall I'm happy.
Post race
Warm down:

It started raining just as I crossed the finish line. I walked around and drank some water. Shortly after I finished it started to rain hard. Got packed up and left as quickly as I could.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor swim. Need to train a little harder to find that extra gear. Probably need to swim a little straighter too.

Event comments:

Good race. Lots of volunteers and drink stations. It started raining hard shortly after I crossed the finish line so I don't know about post race activities. I would recommend doing this race.
