Swim
Comments: Since this was my first tri I signed up for the novice wave. They scheduled the novice waves to start first with a 1 minute interval between the women's and men's waves. I didn't get kicked or kick anyone. Some jostling and bumping and came close to swimming over a few people but overall it went well. What would you do differently?: More time in the pool and more open water swimming. I still need to practice sighting and navigation but that went better today than the last OW practice swim. Transition 1
Comments: Couldn't get the cap off!! At least until I was much further up the beach than I wanted. That delayed getting the wetsuit unzipped and pulled down. Took longer to do everything today than it had in practice. Didn't help that I slipped while trying to pull my leg out of the wetsuit and fell over. What would you do differently?: Not fall over would be a good start. Just more practice. Bike
Comments: Good ride, although I think I could have pushed it a bit more. I changed tires early in the week and that definitely helped with the flats and downhills. Bad weather over the last couple of weeks limited my riding which hurt the climbs. I had to lock up the wheels at one point where a local family was letting their dog run back and forth across the road.(missed the dog by inches and flat spotted the tire) Spectacular view from the top of the biggest climb. What would you do differently?: More mile on the bike. This is a new road bike and I've only gotten it out 7 or 8 times, prior to that I hadn't been on the road in over a year. Transition 2
Comments: I'm happy with it. What would you do differently?: Nothing really except speed it up a little. Run
Comments: I actually did better than I thought so I'm happy with the run. I consider running to be my weakest since I'm very new to it. I've progressed over the last couple of years & this felt pretty good. It took a while to get my legs back, but I've only done a couple of bricks before this race and only one that also included a swim. What would you do differently?: At this point nothing. As I continue to train and my running improves I feel that will carry over to the tris. Post race
Event comments: I'm still not sure of all the placing, since that has been changing as the day has gone on. They had some problems with their live timing so I'll edit if the data changes. Last updated: 2012-06-10 12:00 AM

We decided to stay at the location of the race so it would make for an easy check-in on the race morning. Checked the bike in when transition opened and took a walk around the transition area to get familiar with the layout.
10 minute swim before the competitor briefing and begin of wave starts.
