Swim
Comments: Could not take a full deep breath and had difficulty finding my rhythm. First timer so a little anxious. Breathing bilaterally in freestyle but stinging contact lenses and fogged up goggles made the swim blind essentially. Several other waves passed through me so I got some kicks and splashes when trying to inhale. That made me hit the reset button each time it occurred, and I ended up breast stroking most of this leg. Slowwwwww. Odd parts of swimming back toward the beach - water shallow enough to wade around the buoys! What would you do differently?: Make sure to keep the goggles on once they suction to my face. Don't panic. Become more efficient with technique and mellow out so I can get to mthe rhythm. Transition 1
Comments: I came out of the water running but stopped short of my bike rack, which I hadn't sighted properly. Had my hydration and nutrition in transition and put bike gloves on before exiting. Pokey. What would you do differently?: I could run all the way to the rack and remember to take it off while standing on the proper side. That would rob ably cut a minute or two off. Bike
Comments: Best leg for me but still trying to figure out how to cut time. I know - a road bike and toe cages! Paved roads and courteous competitors. many opportunities to break away on the long stretches. Lost my dangling water bottle and did not stop bc I knew I'd rehydrate in transition. What would you do differently?: I'm curious about what my time could be on a bike other than a hybrid. Transition 2
Comments: I already had my running shoes on since my bike is a hybrid. Rehydration and more nutrition during this time. What would you do differently?: Run, don't walk, to run out. Run
Comments: Booooooooooo. I think I started off too fast. I had to stop three times a walk a block or two. Couldn't find my neutral pace to put my body in. Very difficult to get going once I slowed down. It made me mad. Encouragement from fellow competitors and amazing support from the neighbors and spectators. Misting station and cold wet towels at mile two were much appreciated. What would you do differently?: Mellow out, put a shirt and headphones on and find my zone. Post race
Warm down: Walking around What limited your ability to perform faster: My mind got in my way. Nerves. Event comments: A well organized race with lots of support. Tremendous encouragement from spectators, community and fellow competitors. Empowering, ESP to first timers. I'll do it again next year and beat my time. Last updated: 2012-06-10 12:00 AM
