Swim
Comments: The swim went really well. I believe it was about 100 meters short based on my time. Males under 40 were the first wave to go and a bunch of guys started out right on top of me and then proceeded to try and swim 3:00 hundreds in a horizontal line in front of me. Eventually had to almost go over the top of a couple of guys to get by. After the first buoy it was easy sailing. 5th out of the water in my wave...very happy with this time. What would you do differently?: Stay out from behind the group of slower swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: Again, I really need to make up time here. I am going to do some practice transitions before my next race. Bike
Comments: I had a pretty good ride here. I still need to gain some speed, but I think race wheels and an aero helmet are a good place to start. Just out of transition a guy trying to get his feet in his shoes swerved in front of me and in the process of avoiding him I hit a big pothole and my horizontal mounted aero bottle came flying out. This was the only fluid I had for the course so I had to stop and get off the bike to grab it. Lost at least 20-30 seconds there. The course was on some very rough roads in an area I was familiar with. We went over two sets of railroad tracks and a guy in front of me flatted on the second set. The race rally needs to drop some mats over these next year if they decide to keep the same route. Overall I was happy with my time...but I still want to pick up the pace. What would you do differently?: Go faster...and not drop my bottle. Transition 2
Comments: Could have cut off 15 seconds here by not forgetting my water bottle. Run
Comments: I had my wife counting guys in my age group and the number of people in front of me. I knew when I came into transition that I couldn't see anyone in front of me or behind me. She said that I was in 4th with two guys in my age group ahead of me. I started out around 6:30 miles and got to a point in the race where I could see a mile behind me...no one in sight. I could also see there was no point in killing myself to try and catch the top 3 guys since they were a solid 2 minutes up. I cruised right under a 7:00 mile for the next couple of miles and pushed it a little on the last mile. The race results have me in 6th overall...but a 40 year old guy swam in our age group and had a time of 2:33 for his split. Add 5 minutes to this which is when his age group started and I beat him by almost two minutes...so 5th not 6th. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Post race
Warm down: Hung out with the family and watched Dad come in...1st in his age group. Picked up our age group awards and took it to the house. Event comments: The only complaint I have about the race is the railroad tracks on the bike and the road conditions. There were tons of pot holes and those tracks were at the bottom of a downhill. Other than that, RaceDayEvents put on a great race...as they always do. Last updated: 2012-06-11 12:00 AM

I had my usual peanut butter bagel and coffee. I got to transition a few minutes before it opened and got the first spot on rack #1. Set up transition, picked up my packed, and hung out with Dad until the start.
My legs were stupid sore from playing softball on Wednesday (yea I know dumb decision) so I went for a one mile warm-up jog before the swim start.
