Total Time = 1h 28m 45s
Overall Rank = 73/396
Age Group = 35-39M
Age Group Rank = 12/51
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:25, had some coffee. Took care of some personal business and ate an oatmeal bar on way to race.

Chatted with coworkers Ham Davis, Bruce Miller, and Josh Levine before the race.
Event warmup:

Swam 200-300 yards in lake.
Swim
  • 15m 50s
  • 820 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

This time is slower than I'd expect. Maybe the course was long? Top quartile threshold in my AG was 1:54, so that's pretty slow. Of course, I found myself 10 yards right of everyone pretty much the entire race, so maybe I was just doing squiggles the whole way.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

T1 included a long, long run. The fastest T1 of anyone was 1:51 and top quartile threshold was 2:17, so my times wasn't nearly as bad as it looks.
Bike
  • 45m 54s
  • 17 miles
  • 22.22 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike is usually my worst-ranked leg, so I determined not to let that happen today. My goal was to push really hard and just see what happens on the run. As a result, it was my highest-ranked leg today, and beat my sprint bike PR pace by a wide margin (22.2 vs. 20.9).
Transition 2
  • 02m 5s
Comments:

Okay, T2 actually was kind of bad. Couldn't get my bike shoes off and run shoes on. Frankly I'm not sure what happened, I just know I lost about 20 seconds here frantically struggling with shoes. Maybe I was just too energized, maybe too dizzy from pushing so hard on the bike, or maybe I just need to practice this.

Note that I said I lost 20 seconds, not the minute you'd think based on the time; again, there was a long run buried in T2 time.
Run
  • 22m 27s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

Well, this was the moment of truth after pushing so hard on the bike. I was surprised at how steep some of the trails were but none were brutal. I felt *so* slow at first but it turns out I churned out a pretty normal speed for me; it just hurt worse than usual.
Post race
Warm down:

Heed. Pizza. Beer. Talked to William Hunt, Ed Haskey, Ben Cooley, and Ilan Paltrow after the event.

Event comments:

A really fun event. Wish it weren't quite so early but I'll take it.

Really, really nice event. Pizza & beer was a nice treat.
