Swim
Comments: Position myself towards front and to outside. Last year was in back but found I had to still swim around people even though I was not a fast swimmer. Got off to a good start, and had open water as I was on outside but could not draft anyone. About 2/3 into the swim, I noticed a person with a different cap, it was a woman 40-45 in the wave starting behind us....I just got chicked! What would you do differently?: Just keep working on swim, at least I improve my swim from last year and now middle of the pack swimmer. Transition 1
Comments: T-1 is a long run from swim exit to transition. Everyones t-1 times were 1 min longer than normal. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: A tougher bike course helps me make up lost time from swim. Course was tougher but my overall speed improved 1.5 mph over the previous year. 2nd fastest in my age group. What would you do differently?: First tri with aero bars attached, definitely got my speed up and overall improvement. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was smooth and did not waste time. What would you do differently?: nothing Run
Comments: Headed off on run and was able to maintain a steady pace. Tried to finish last half of race faster then begin. Overall felt I was running at a slower pace then last year but run time was actually faster. Got my fastest PR but age group rank did not reflect improvement. What would you do differently?: Tough to improve on my PR for this distance. Post race
Warm down: walked around, grabbed fruit, snacks and a cold beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: I improved in each of my events but going forward the improvements will be smaller and smaller. Got up had the usual Shreaded Wheats, whole grain bagel with peanut butter and a couple of bananas. Left home on time and got to event as planned.
Racked bike in assign rack position, layed out transition and went for a 15 warmup run. Stayed in transition until it was closed and headed for swim area.
