Total Time = 2h 30m 56s
Overall Rank = 57/448
Age Group = M30-34
Age Group Rank = 8/29
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:45AM, bagel with PB, final prep and put the bikes on the car for a 5:30 departure for the race. Parked, pumped the tires, got body marked and chip scanned, and hung around transition until the race start.
Event warmup:

None. Some light stretching prior to the race start
Swim
  • 28m 28s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 44s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was exactly what I needed mentally in prep for my longer race next weekend. Started further back in the pack this time, and felt relax from the very start. Took in water a few times with the mouth open when sighting, so I need to work on that. Also had some questionable sighthing on the way our as at times I seemed far from the buoys. Overall I felt great physically and mentally the whole swim.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really, maybe just do a better job of keeping the mouth closed while sighting to avoid taking in water.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Nothing much to say here. Wasn't taking it too hard as this was a final prep race, so overall I'm relatively happy with the time. Certainly could've improved had it been a more intense race situation.
Bike
  • 1h 14m 11s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 20.10 mile/hr
Comments:

First of all, loved the bike course. A lot of variety, some great views, areas of shade and sun. Legs were tired as usual coming out of T1, but only until the HR comes down and the legs stretch out a bit. Definitely didn't give 100% here but gave it a good effort.
Transition 2
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

Not much to say here. Took the time to stretch a bit just to get the legs (and especially the questionable calf) ready for the run.
Run
  • 43m 54s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

Very happy with the run. Gave the run 80% or so in anticipation of the big race next weekend, but was very happy with the time overall. After the short hill around 1.5 miles the legs really warmed up and the second loop felt great overall. As usual, the run is where I make up time for the lack of speed in the other 2 disciplines.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, great run
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some quick water and got the camera out to catch the wife coming through on her first loop of the run. Did some stretching while on waiting and ate a Clif bar. After the wife was finished grabbed some additional food and did some more light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing, only the fact that the iron-distance race the next weekend kept my level of effort a bit lower.

Event comments:

Overall great race experience. Beautiful venue and some enjoyable courses to go along with it. Loved the race hoodies for a change. As with all races there were a few areas for improvement (having to pay $10 to park, chip scanning race morning got backed up) but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to recommend this race to anyone interested.
