Swim
Comments: This was great improvement over last year. I improved my swim time by about 20 minutes. What would you do differently?: I would train more in open water and harder! Transition 1
Comments: Wet suit did get stuck on my right ankle but I got it off pretty quickly. For these longer events I try and just relax and make sure I have everything I need for the ride. Even though I took a while I still forgot to load up a power bar in my back pocket. I had plenty of gels just nothing solid. I was initially concerned but I compensated by grabbing a couple of banannas while riding through the aid stations. What would you do differently?: Practice the transition a little bit more. Bike
Comments: My plan for the bike leg was to just set myself up for the run and nothing more. I had a HR zone that I wanted to stay in and I stayed as close to it as possible. It was really hard to watch people go flying by me knowing I would normally keep up or ride faster but I had a plan and I needed to stick to it. What would you do differently?: Train harder! Transition 2
Comments: I took a little bit longer here, because I didnt have a chearing section at the event and I felt the need to send a message to my wife to let her know I am ok and feeling strong. Besides that is went smoothly, I should have put more suncreen on. What would you do differently?: Not send a txt but I am glad I did, it gave my cheering section at home something to cheer about. Run
Comments: Definitely not my fastest half marathon but I was satisfied with the run. I ran the entire distance and felt like I passed most people who passed me on the bike. It was extremely hot and all around a rough run because of it. I carried an insulated bottle and filled it with ice and water at every aid station and was constatnly spraying myself down with it to try and keep my core tempt down. It definitely helped and probably the best planning decision I made for the enitre race. What would you do differently?: Train harder! Post race
Warm down: Walked, ate, drank, and enjoyed watching everyones look of accomplishment. What limited your ability to perform faster: My training fell off about two months prior to the event due to work obligations. So I am sure that limited my ability to perform faster. Overal I did improve my time from last year by about an hour. So I am happy with my results. Event comments: Good race, what really makes this event tough is the heat!
