Event warmup:

Comments:

First comparison swim. Well as close as I can get. This was the Spring Fling race in april.may last year and I raced it wearing a wetsuit. I was faster last year. This is a big deal considering Ive felt lately like my suit isnt making me faster.
Strat was a bang-we took off fast! I slightly faded nearing the first buoy and then regained it. Coming off PIT I was used to more "paced" swimming-oops its a 500-GOOOOOO!
No problems drafting when I could, had a few crossing swim overs with others not sighting well, and had great sighting myself using the giant tree at the exit.
What would you do differently?:

Hold pace longer, it is a sprint afterall.
Transition 1
  • 00m 20s
Comments:

If you've read my race reports-rule #1 stay under 1:00.
:20--TADA! I was second rack in 1/2 way down. Dropped goggles on way in, helmet on-CLICK-and run. about 15 racks to exit, then 100 feet or so to mount line.

Comments:

Ok ok-I know-brokoe cardinal rule #1.
Had to be REAL careful entering T2-the timing mats were GLASS.
Got to my rack I thought quick-hmmm
racked bike fine, helmet fine--then it fell off--onto shoes and socks.
Yeah socks-rain plus barefeet -- UM NO. If I was top 3 Ill take a blister for a pretty trophy, top 10-Ill keep my week of training intact. wet ISH socks and shoes, go go go. stupidly forgot glasses were on as I was putting my visor on on the way out of transition-ran down half rack to toss them back in my area.
What would you do differently?:

Dont drop helmet onto stuff Im about to use.
Faster with socks
glasses off sooner when switching.
Run
  • 18m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

Had a tight back for the first 1/4, then tight calves for a few seconds. fine for the climb. Good climbing-I knew this hill was coming. Good pushing. Wish I would have kept pushing harder at the finish but I was sumping all I had once we hit the bottom of the mother hill. I had a PT solutions rabbit who passed me (23 yr hich school trackster trained by clayton) I stayed with him as much as I could-it felt real nice to push it like that for as long as i did. I was :05/mile slower than last year but eh Im happy.

Course: backwards P with 3 turns. First 5-6 miles are all rolling uphill. One moderate hill and one false flat hill. One hill you see coming but your downhill bottoms out so momentum is gone. 2 of the 3 turns are climbing or medium speed hills, one is sharp with no speed. Once you clear the 5-6 mile uphill-GUN IT all out for the rest, you wont be sorry you did. I was very happy with my avg speed-considering it was POURING the whole ride.-Had to avoid puddles, rolling water, and slick lines.

Course: Lollipop Out across flat bridge (0.25 miles) bend up slight hill to sidestreet. Right turn up HOLY MOTHER OF GOD HILL (0.10). It goes up then bends and goes UP. Drop hill to uphill to rolling windining hills to neighborhood. YOull hit the 1 in the rolls. Neighborhood is MILDLY rolling, all right turns back to rolling winding roads. DOWNHILL (so steep you BRAKE going down it-ESPECIALLY when its still POURING) hard left and slight downhill to bridge. Sprint to parking lot. Left turn in, across the lot, wind right, across parking lot to finish in the back of the park.
