Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 3:45 and ate breakfast which was 2 pieces of toast and jam and a Monster Java. I got out the door at 4:45 and met up with Jeff. He drove and we got to the race at about 5:10.
Event warmup:

We unloaded the car and rode our bikes to transition. I had went to packet pick up the day prior so we got thru body marking and picked up our chips and I headed for a 10 min jog. After my jog I got back into transition and pulled on my wetsuit and headed in for a 10 min warmup in the hot water. I should have gone without but it was a short swim so I was ok.
Swim
  • 09m 43s
  • 586 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

The first step I took into the water I smashed my big toe into a rock and then I wasn't quite sure if we had to round the first bouy so I headed in athe wrong direction and lost about 30 sec. I lost the first group and pulled away from the second so I was alone for almost the whole swim.
What would you do differently?:

Not smash my toe and be sure of the course well before the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

I had a bit of trouble with my left shoe but otherwise this was a pretty good transition. My suit came right off.
What would you do differently?:

I should fix the loops on my shoes so my rubberbands don't slip off.
Bike
  • 28m 48s
  • 11 miles
  • 22.92 mile/hr
Comments:

Much better than Lake Mills. I kept my head on task and kept the pressure on. I wanted to ride hard and I did. I am going to continue to try and improve but this was a motivating result.
What would you do differently?:

I would like to get more rides outside but with the kids being so young, trainer rides are mostly what I can get. I have a harder time pushing it inside for long periods.
Transition 2
  • 00m 57s
Comments:

Its T2 and I didn't have any mishaps.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 21m 54s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

This was a good run for me. I kept pushing even though I was mostly all alone. I took time in T2 to get my Garmin and this really helped me to push hard and keep my pace up.
What would you do differently?:

Just try harder!
Post race
Warm down:

I walked around for a bit and dumped some water on myself. They had free massage so I got one of those and had a Coke and some pretzels.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Inability to swim....ha

Event comments:

This was a great race and the venue is really good too. The course is challenging and fun.
