Swim
Comments: Alot of swimmers swimming diff directions and off course. Questioned myself a couple of times because of this but I continued to stay well on course. Once past the first turn I was swimming pretty much alone- only saw a couple of my age groupers around me. It was smooth from there. What would you do differently?: Try to get past the frenzy a little quicker - should have really kicked into gear sooner than doubting my course/direction Transition 1
Comments: tried the trispray to put my suit on this year and makes a diff getting it off now. No hangups in removing the suit. Can't run in biking shoes due ot achilles injury - walked fast and did as well as I could. What would you do differently?: Not much I can do other than more practice. Would like to eventually have shoes on pedals but that can prove to be quite difficult and takes a lot of training. maybe next year. Bike
Comments: Have already known I need a lot of work on the hills. Climbing is not an issue - the descent is still unnerving to me. Really need to learn to use the downhill speed to my advantage. What would you do differently?: More training on the hills Transition 2
Comments: all went well but had to put on a IT compression strap for the run. This is a new item and I then forgot my nutrition for my pocket - and my "advil". The achilles was really aching and really needed the help. Headed out without it and actually considered going back for it... What would you do differently?: practice the transition more. other than that, the time wasn't too bad. Run
Comments: Really had a tough time with the initial aspect of the run; walked for a bit and got hold of my mental state and had to really talk myself into running with the pain. mile 1 came pretty fast - then the aid station and got my gu and water - that helped. After the turn around just did the 10 min run, 1 min walk - that helped too. Then a fellow age grouper ran ahead of me and I was not going to let another one pass so I caught up/passed and finished ahead. Better than I expected. What would you do differently?: remember my nutrition - practice my transition. Nothing I can do about my run this year - after my 1/2 IM I will have surgery on the achilles. Hopefully that will get my run back up to where it should be. Post race
Warm down: walk and stretch What limited your ability to perform faster: Achilles injury and right IT band issues. Event comments: Overall a good race and I loved seeing how well organized it was. Lot's of friendly volunteers. But...was surprised to see the lack of real food - just a lot of appetizers - what's up with that? Had to go out to eat afterwards. I have seen better venues for less $$. Great medals though! Last updated: 2012-06-14 12:00 AM
