Swim
Comments: A great swim for me. Felt like I started really fast...which I might have paid for a little after the turn, but I was pumped up about having a good swim and the additional swims i've been doing. Probably could have shaved off about 30 seconds if I didn't try and rocket out of the swim start. What would you do differently?: just do more swims and longer distance...maybe through in some sprint work in practice. Was best time, so I can't complain Transition 1
Comments: Was one of the faster T1 times in my ag..something like 10th or 11th and nothing went wrong. What would you do differently?: Learn how to have my shoes cliped into the bike before and hop on bike and go....the flying squirell thing. I've never done it so that would probably shave some time off Bike
Comments: So I lost any and all hope of a top 10 finish almost halfway through the bike...got a front tire flat and didn't have a tire removal tool. Took 10-15min to find one from, of all people, a touring cyclist. Got the tube changed and noticed the sidewall was cut through on the tire...lucky to have been able to finish the ride. Before the flat though I was flying and passing people like crazy and was feeling GREAT. I also stopped and helped another competitor change his tire 2 miles from the finish...had to pay back the kindness somehow. What would you do differently?: Check my tires the day before or a fewdays before the race to make sure they are in proper form and wont blow on you during the ride. This was my first flat during a race. Also make sure you have all your tube changing tools in your bag...one of mine...and most important tool were in the truck back at the start:( I can't really complain because I was doing really well before the flat...just bad luck and that happens, so I'm not going to say I had a "bad" ride, just below average luck. Transition 2
Comments: I sort of slowed this one down since I knew my race was kind of over as far as placing, but I still had 15th fastest time. Would have been going much harder if I had not of flatted. What would you do differently?: notta Run
Comments: I didn't hammer the run, but I still went hard enough to feel it and say I raced it hard. I'm pretty sure my time would have been similar if I had been able to ride flat free on the bike cause I felt like I could have gone faster on the run. Kind of hard to say what would happen... What would you do differently?: Not much, though I know I could have pushed it more if I really wanted to. I told myself halfway through the run that I needed to go bike 45miles after the race as "punishment" for having a flat:) Post race
Warm down: ate a few of the iceepops they were handing out and some water and frozen lemonade and that was it....oh and the 45mile bike ride an hour later:) What limited your ability to perform faster: A flat tire on my front wheel halfway through the bike...yuck..bad luck..don't flat and top ten was within striking distance. Event comments: It's not a huge race, but it's fun, it's local and close to the house. Other than the flat tire, my fault, I had a great time and would do it again! Last updated: 2012-06-15 12:00 AM
