Swim
Comments: standing in the corral, I saw a man with 81 on his calf! now that is cool!! just took it out ez at first then pushed it up to moderate mid-way, tried to finish strong! it only took several 100 yards before the pack thinned out. What would you do differently?: nada Transition 1
Comments: long run from the lake to the TA, probably 200 yards. I focused much better this time, but still had difficulty with the socks...I can bike without socks, but not sure about the run, so I think I will practice running sockless for my sprints. What would you do differently?: go faster!!! Bike
Comments: hmmmm, I could have gone faster, and probably should have. I passed numerous people, and a few passed me. saw a large buck cross the road directly in front of me on my last mile! I slowed down a bit thinking there would be more deer that could possibly crash me!!! time is from my bike computer. What would you do differently?: maybe a bit more legs at the end... Transition 2
Comments: I had an excellent bike rack spot...so I know this was a better than normal transition for me... but my transitions and bike time got messed up on the official timing :( Setup's race timing screwed up somehow. What would you do differently?: go faster! Run
Comments: this is about a fast as I can go right now. I need to get the run time down in the 20 minute range. 2nd and 3rd place passed me with about a mile to go.. dang.. this course was perfect for me; very little pavement and lots of soft dirt and gravel trails. dang plastic chip strap cut into the back of my ankle! What would you do differently?: go faster! Post race
Warm down: crossed the finish line, got a finisher's medal, caught my breath and grabbed some powerade. talked to a ton of finishers and had a few beers! yummmm! beer at 9AM!! What limited your ability to perform faster: still working on bringing the run up to speed. PF did not hurt at all on the run (it did hurt later that night). that is good news...So, basically I'm a couple of months behind on my run training this year and I hope to be up to speed for the Lake Norman Sprint (8/27). Event comments: Great race; will do this one next year! Last updated: 2006-05-24 12:00 AM

drove down Friday after work and ran into a nasty Thunderstorm around Statesville...around Mooresville traffic backed up for a good 15 miles...and then I ran into 'after work' traffic in Huntersville (race city). I was already pooped!!! picked up my race packet, checked the TA and the lake out, then drove the bike route. Just so happened to notice a Micholob beer trailor next to the TA..hmmmmm, could this race serve beer afterwards?
It rained HARD most of the night..I kept thinking (not sleeping, of course) that I was going to race in a mud bath rain storm. Luckily, the rain stopped around 4:00am.
the race organizers wanted you arrive a O'Dark thirty for some god awful reason, so I got there at 5:20 and did the 3/4 mile walk in the dark to the race site. parked the bike, hit the port-o-lets, then got my chip, body markings, and set up my TA area. I had to go back and get the plastic chip bracelet thing 2 different times! First time it was defective, the second time, I cut the damn thing!! I have my own chip holder strap, but I don't where I put it...(note to self, M*U*S*T find chip holder strap)
ran about a mile warmup on the race course.
