Comments:

There was no warm up so the first 200-400 meters helped me get my bearing. I had some minor issues settling into my routine since this was my first open water swim in 10+ years. I had to do back stroke a couple of times to help calm myself and relax.

I was surprised to end the swim so fast, it was 15 minutes faster than I did it in training.
What would you do differently?:

I need to increase my swim training and work on my form.
Transition 1
  • 03m 18s
Comments:

This was the first transitions I have done from swim to bike. Had a couple issues with gear, but overall pleased as my first T1.
What would you do differently?:

Practicing the transition and gear layout.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 17s
  • 25 miles
  • 16.99 mile/hr
Comments:

I was not used to hills, there where 6 big hills. I was probably the only person on a tri-bike with a camel bak, I did not want to risk fluid consumption. My hill climbs were awful since I have not had hills to train on in Alaska. I also only had a week on the bike before the race and overall thoroughly impressed with my time.
What would you do differently?:

I need to get more base and work on my hill climbing. I lost a lot of time on the climbs.
Transition 2
  • 02m 16s
What would you do differently?:

Need to work on layout and gear changes.
Run
  • 1h 07m 19s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 50s  min/mile
Comments:

I was feeling the hills as I did not do a lot of hill training. I was also feeling the temp and humidity, but overall pleased.
What would you do differently?:

I need to work on more bricks and more speed work. My pace is not where I want it to be.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting my tri bike 9 days before the race so I had limited time to get it fully set-up. I got to TN 12days before the race so I was still adjusting to the temperature and humidity from AK. I also did not do a lot of hill training so most hills kicked my butt.

Event comments:

For my first race I think I did well. I learned a lot and wish this was not my last race of the season. I am planning to build my base up a lot over the winter months.
