Swim
Comments: Two straight races of sub-par swims. Finding that I don't do well on short courses. Too much clutter, too much bumping to get into any kind of rhythm. Plust, my training swims are never less than 1000m. I guess I figure why bother getting in the pool for 10 laps? Also, I once again notice too many people going out too fast on the swim. They go out like bullets but when they slow up they slow up very quickly. Passed a lot of people, and the traffic probably hurt my time. But I'm still glad to know that I am managing my starting pace properly, something I think I struggled with early on. What would you do differently?: Maybe start on the outside of the group and angle towards the bouy instead of straight ahead. Maybe do some swim sprints in the pool. Transition 1
Comments: About what I'm used to in transitions. Never been good at this and unless I'm going to focus strictly on short races I'm okay with it. Bike
Comments: Fastest bike split yet and it's because I finally figured my lack of power. I was turning 172.5mm cranks, and once I discovered this I changed to 175mm like I have on the roadie. This difference was remarkable. The power was finally there. I passed a lot of riders on the bike and wasn't passed a single time. The wind wasn't much of issue and the course was flat but even on the small hills I noted that I had plenty of power when coming out of the saddle. What would you do differently?: My trisuit has very little padding. I need something more for longer distances. Transition 2
Comments: Again, nothing unexpected. Lost time to a few people in transition but I noted that I was able to gain it back on the run. Run
Comments: Good even pace throughout. Again passed several runners, got past 4-5 times but only once by an age-grouper that I could tell. HR was up, consistently 170s and probably due to poor prehydration. Overall felt good the whole run, not needing to slow the pace at any time and in fact was able to pick it up for the last 1/2 mile. What would you do differently?: Prehydrate. No ballgames in the heat or beer the day before. Post race
Warm down: Nothing fancy, water on the head and chocolate milk. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nutrition and the short swim. But I finished 3rd in age group, my first age group award so far. I decided not to compete in Clydesdale this time and I did well. Event comments: Playtri does a good job with these DFW events. The course was well marked and well-manned. Not too easy, not too hard. The field was just about the right size, and the small swimming area may limit them from a larger field. No problems in transition. The venue is great too. This would be a good first-timers race. Last updated: 2012-06-17 12:00 AM

Overall Rank = 24/105
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 3/13
Out the door at 5:30 for 7AM start. Had to search for an open gas station so I could hydrate and get some breakfast in me. Banana, snickers, gatorade and iced coffee.
None. Probably a mistake because my swim time was disappointing. Hard for me to swim effectively in such a short distance.
