Swim
Comments: For my first triathlon, at least I finished the swim, but it was touch and go. Fear and over-anticipation got the best of me, started to fast, didn't get into a groove and had to backstroke early on. Finally got a groove going, but had tired myself out by that point. What would you do differently?: Go out steadier, and pick up speed later in the swim. Transition 1
Comments: Open racking, but with enough space for everyone. My first T1, so I was deliberate; not the best time but not the worst. What would you do differently?: Forget the towel wipe on the face. It's not needed. Bike
Comments: For my first bike segment ever, VERY happy with this result as it enabled me to catch up on the field. Was not passed, but passed many. Cervelo P3 handled beautifully - it really took care of me. Was in tuck about 90% of the way. What would you do differently?: Not much...Train to bike even harder. Transition 2
Comments: As with T1, more deliberate than speedy, but happy with transition. What would you do differently?: Knock off another 25% from the time. Run
Comments: I was disappointed with the run, though it was decent. My thought is the fatigue from the swim carried right into it. I *should* have been able to get a low 7/high 5 min/mi pace. I didn't push it hard enough at the end, even though I could have caught the next runner. My mind was saying "you've dialed into this pace, and its almost over". What would you do differently?: Crank it up - don't let my mind decide how fast to go. This is where the pain pays off! Post race
Warm down: Cool off, stretch What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim effort, intimidation at first triathlon Event comments: This race was well organized and fun. Nothing went wrong (beyond my performance). I'd do it again! Last updated: 2012-06-18 12:00 AM
