Overall Rank = 42/193
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 2/7
Pre-race routine:

Strangely had a terrible sleep the night prior so woke up with headache and had a PB and banana sandwich and OJ. Drank a Gatorade G1 about 20 minutes before swim
Event warmup:

Long walk with bikes (mine and my son's) from parking area to staging area. Some stretching and that was about it.
Swim
  • 06m 26s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Overall good short swim. Got passed once and passed by two other people so my seeding was about right.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Bike
  • 37m 5s
  • 11.5 miles
  • 18.61 mile/hr
Comments:

Pleased with the ride; had ridden the course the prior weekend about 3 minutes slower; navigated the turns much better during the race. Rode pretty much throughout with a 17 yr old and we took turns leading and pushing one another. Had enough at the end to speed to the finish.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Lost track of where to rack the bike and probably cost me about 30-45 seconds in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Establish sight line to bike rack from transition entry area before the race
Run
  • 28m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I didn't struggle or bonk, but this is definitely the area I can work on improving. I think I passed one Clydesdale at the start and then got passed by several dozen people young and old along the way. Just need to work on establishing a quicker pace without crashing.
What would you do differently?:

More bike-run bricks and weight work focused on running muscle groups
Post race
Warm down:

Felt very good post-race; mostly was pumped to get my 10 yr old son ready for his first kid's tri event. Drank a Gatorade G3 and that was about it.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slow on the run.

Event comments:

Good event - could have used a few more volunteers particularly to oversee safety for the kid's event where too many cars were interfering with the kid's bike course. I was pleased with my race results and would recommend this event to others.
