Swim
Comments: Extremely choppy water with 4 feet of chop! 144 people in my wave. My right calf cramped up halfway through the swim. Toughest Oly swim I have done. What would you do differently?: Get in water later for in-water start. Was swimming and treading water for 15 minutes before start. Transition 1
Comments: Put my shoes on in T1 as I had trouble in my last race with getting my feet in while peddling. What would you do differently?: Need new tri cycling shoes that allow me to get into them easier on the bike. Bike
Comments: Tough, hilly course. Felt like my seat post dropped and I was sitting an inch or two too low. My right quad started cramping towards the end of the bike. What would you do differently?: Ride the course the day before. This is a must for this type of technical, hilly course. Transition 2
Run
Comments: The first hill was a killer. It took another mile to fully recover and get back to race pace. My quad and calf were already cramping, so I didn't push too hard in the back half of the run. What would you do differently?: Might try shoes with a little more cushioning and stability. My feet were pretty sore from the racing shoes and I have run faster in light weight trainers. Post race
Warm down: Stretching, soak in bath tub, Aleve. What limited your ability to perform faster: Water conditions, hilly bike course and cramping. Event comments: I guess the course had to be tough for the national championships, but the event wasn't well organized. One bottle of warm water at the end of the race - that's it! No gatorade and they wouldn't even give me a second bottle of water! The post race food was spicy Mexican. Who the hell can eat that after a race? Post race was the worst I have ever experienced.
