Swim
Comments: First olympic distance tri, so 3 times farther then any other tri that I've done. First race with wetsuit and only 2nd time swimming in open water. Started slow and just tried to stay relaxed. Felt that I sighted pretty good and even passed a few people from the previous wave. What would you do differently?: Maybe push a little harder. Overall I was very happy with my time. Transition 1
Comments: When I exited the water and started up the boat ramp, I felt a little light headed. When I got to transition I felt dizzy and stood there for a second trying to shake it off. Took the wetsuit off quick and it seem liked it took forever to put on shirt, socks, shoes, helmet, sunglasses, grab gels. Wow no wonder it took forever. What would you do differently?: Not get dizzy...however you do that, and need to streamline putting so many things on in transition. Bike
Comments: Felt pretty good on the bike. Passed lots of people going up hill. Was a little disappointed after turn around and a head wind started. I need to drink more, as I didn't even finish one bottle. I pushed about as hard as I wanted to, so no complaints. What would you do differently?: Drink more, and not have a slight headwind coming back. Transition 2
Comments: This transition went smoother. Got shoes off and on quick and grabbed my hat and race number, took a quick drink and off I went. What would you do differently?: Remember to take the gel flasks out of my side pockets before the run. Run
Comments: Legs felt dead starting out, so I knew I wouldn't set any land speed records. I rounded the lake to see a very steep dirt trail, that everybody was walking, so I ran about 1/2 way up then walked a little also. I drank too much at the first couple of aid stations, and could feel the sloshing and I started to cramp a little. I basically skipped the rest of the aid stations with fear that I might cramp up. Last mile seemed to take forever and I didn't have anything left for any type of kick coming in. What would you do differently?: Not drink so much at the first couple of aid stations. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and grabbed some water and some grapes and cheered for others coming in. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of experience. This is only my 3rd tri and first olympic. Event comments: Was a good race, that I will definitely do again. Last updated: 2006-05-24 12:00 AM

We stayed at ABQKid's place about 30 minutes from the race site, so that was nice. We got up about 5am and ate a bagel and peanut butter, packed up and headed out. We forgot our water bottles in the fridge, so we had to go back and get them, so that we had some nutrition to drink on the bike.
Picked up timing chip and got body marked. Walked down to start line and put on wetsuit.
